In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of "Word for the Day".
benign \bih-NYNE\ adjective
1. of a gentle disposition; gracious *
2a. showing kindness and gentleness
2b. favorable, wholesome
3a. of a mild type or character that does not threaten health or life, especially not becoming cancerous
3b. having no significant effect; harmless
* Indicates the sense illustrated in the example sentence.
Example sentence:
Mr. Richardson was a benign man and an excellent teacher, and the children loved and trusted him instinctively.
Did you know?
"Benediction," "benefactor," "benefit," "benevolent," and "benign" are just some of the English words that derive from the well-tempered Latin root "bene," which means "well." "Benign" came to English via Anglo-French from the Latin "benignus," which in turn paired "bene" with "gignere," meaning "to beget." "Gignere" has produced a few offspring of its own in English. Its descendants include "congenital," "genius," "germ," "indigenous," and "progenitor," among others.
Rules: Everyone must leave a post using the Word for the Day in a sentence.
The sentence must, in some way, relate to the news of the day.
The Review threads are linked for your edification. ;-)

Happy B-Day, Texan. The older we get, the more we stick to benign pleasures.
Are those buttercream veggies? I think I like that kind.
I dunno. Yer much older’n me.
Ain’t many older than xsex.
(Robt ducks ...)
Happy Birthday!
Thank you! So many cakes, so little time...
Here's to a lady whose dignity,
Lends class to our class with benignity.
Though her neighbors digress,
She will still pass the test,
For she's gotten immune to malignity.
Happy Birthday.... belated..... oh, I don’t bake... does hostess count?
