The Tennessee Supreme Court this morning refused to hear an appeal from Mary Winkler in her case involving a custody battle over her three children.
The full court issued the denial without comment.
Winkler, who was convicted of voluntary manslaughter for killing her preacher husband last year, is seeking to regain custody of her three young daughters who now live with her husband’s parents.
Dan and Diane Winkler of Huntingdon, Tenn., are seeking to terminate Winkler’s parental rights and to gain permanent custody of the girls.
Mary Winkler asked the state’s high court to intervene by ordering a Juvenile Court to proceed with a hearing that would allow her to present proof that she is able to care for her children and to show that they would not be dependent and neglected.
That hearing was put on hold when the Winklers filed their termination-and-adoption petition April 24 in Carroll County Chancery Court. An appeals court earlier said it had no jurisdiction in the case at this point.
They have had custody of the girls since March of last year when Mary Winkler killed her husband, Matthew Winkler, with a shotgun blast to the back. He was the pulpit preacher at the Fourth Street Church of Christ in Selmer.
Mary Winkler, 33. served 210 days in custody and now will be on probation for the rest of her three-year sentence. She works at a dry cleaners in McMinnville.

“I know you may be a little bit angry that I shot your dad in the back and killed him in cold blood, but you’ll understand when you grow up to be a schizoid crazy ass

WTF? Not even a year for cold blooded murder?
The bad thing about this case is that the court did this in Tennessee and not California where one expects insanity. All the defense arguments citing abuse were negligible especially the super high heels.
So this poor little cigarette smoking innocent wife points a shotgun at her sleeping husband and fills him with bird shot and walks. If she had blasted a white tailed deer out of season with her shotgun she could have been in about as much trouble. It is open season on white tailed men.
The abuse defense, IMHO shouldn’t be a defense anymore unless she killed him while fending off an attack. There are billions of women’s help orgs. in every conceivable city for women who are abused to turn to.
Killing someone because they hurt your self esteem, talk badly, call you names, demean you is not an acceptable way to escape the situation, especially in a cold calculated way like Winkler did.
Your analogy of poaching is a good one, I bet she would have had more trouble if she killed some sort of protected species or ran a dog fighting ring.
I wonder if her EHarmony page has a link to a tactical outlet where her new man can buy a kevlar vest?
First time one of the kids mouths off to her, or calls a mean name, she’d probaly shoot them in the back too!

More power to his parents. I hope they get full custody and that creepy bytch never gets to lay eyes on the girls again. Just looking at her makes my skin crawl.
Either that or she’ll “switch teams” and become a full blown lesbian, she probably got an initiation in jail.
I’m quite certain that she had a lover (of either gender) “on the sly” before even Mr. Winkler was shot dead.
