If a Lab happened to bite me, I would expect it to be not too much more than a nip. I'd say "Dang!" and maybe -- maybe -- I'd need some stitches. This would describe a serious Lab attack.
On the other hand, if a pit bull attacks, it goes more like this: it's powerful jaws latch onto your face, and it's powerful neck muscles shake you like a rag doll. After your face has been removed, it begins biting your arms and shoulders, and legs, and ... to make a long story short, the attack continues until someone comes along and beats the pit bull with a heavy metal shovel. Due to their high pain threshold and stubborn nature, this can necessitate a number of serious whacks with the shovel before the pit bull decides to stop ripping you to shreds.
Pit bulls are just a *special* kind of breed.
It has everything to do with the owner. They train Pit Bulls to be mean (you can do that with any dog if you abuse them) because they have jaws that lock down making it a brutal fight to the death.
My sister has a female pit bull that she literally took in as a stray and that dog won’t bite anything, animal or human. Very loving dog, she loves to fetch the paper.
I agree wholeheartedly. The "bully" lovers will be here soon to tell us that chihuahuas bite more people every year than pit bulls do while conveniently leaving out the fact that chihuahua bites don't maul, permanently disfigure and kill people.
I am thankful that I live in a neighborhood that bans these vicious animals. If I later move to a neighborhood that doesn't, I'll do my best to encourage and support laws banning them there as well.
Assuming that pit bulls should be done away with, how would you propose to implement that? How can you tell which dog is a pit bull? Would you include all breeds that *look* like a pit bull? Who would decide?

I guess I am outlandishly inappropriate
