SPECIAL TROPICAL DISTURBANCE STATEMENT
NWS TPC/NATIONAL HURRICANE CENTER MIAMI FL
910 AM AST FRI AUG 31 2007
SATELLITE IMAGES AND SURFACE OBSERVATIONS INDICATE THAT THE TROPICAL WAVE AND ASSOCIATED LOW PRESSURE AREA LOCATED ABOUT 250 MILES EAST OF THE WINDWARD ISLANDS COULD BE DEVELOPING INTO A TROPICAL DEPRESSION. AN AIR FORCE RESERVE HURRICANE HUNTER WILL INVESTIGATE THE SYSTEM EARLY THIS AFTERNOON TO CONFIRM IF A DEPRESSION HAS FORMED. WATCHES AND WARNINGS MAY BE REQUIRED FOR PORTIONS OF THE WINDWARD ISLANDS...AND ALL INTERESTS IN THAT AREA SHOULD BE READY TO TAKE QUICK ACTION...IF NECESSARY. REGARDLESS OF DEVELOPMENT... HEAVY RAIN AND STRONG GUSTY WINDS WILL SPREAD OVER THE WINDWARD ISLANDS LATER TODAY AND TONIGHT.

This is being referred to as 94L. It is not much of anything, but might start to pound islands with tourists on them next week or possibly Southern Florida...
Still a ways away and does not have an punch...
It is not far off Chavez's Venezuela right now... (Landmass to the West)

The hurricane wishcasters having been puffing and blowing all week trying to get this blob of thunderstorms blow’d up into a tropical cyclone. Here it is almost the peak of the season and we’ve only had Dean to report on. They’re getting desperate.

Here it is almost the peak of the season and we’ve only had Dean to report on. They’re getting desperate.Exactly! Not to say we couldn't have some sever storms yet develop, but this is two years in a row with drastic pre-season predictions yet few results.
It seems to me they're showing themselves to be little better that typical weather forecasters :)

Its easy for somebody up in NH to joke about things like Hurricanes.
Those of us with property along the coast like to keep an eye on things - just in case.
Most of us who follow the Hurricane threads checked our emergency supplies at the start of the season. For most it was just a rotation and update from the winter ice/snow storm supplies.

NOAA NHC Satellite Home Page
Shows that there are 4 Atlantic floaters and 2 East Pacific floaters (in terms of Satellites).
Both East Pacific Satellite floaters are in use -- for TS Gil and TS Henriette... The Atlantic does not have much...
