An ex-boyfriend of Chelsea Clinton dedicated his first book to her and got two thumbs up from her father, the former U.S. president.
In "Elvis is Titanic," an account of his brief time spent teaching in Iraq, Ian Klaus proffers the dedication "To my mother and Chelsea, for understanding."
Klaus, 28, met Chelsea Clinton, 27, while both were at Oxford University in Britain and they dated about four years. She now has a new beau but Klaus is quiet on the subject of relationships, saying he's "enjoying my private life being private."
What's clear is Klaus still has a big fan in the Clinton family. Bill Clinton took time to send an e-mail to USA Today, gushing over him and his book.
"In 'Elvis Is Titanic,' Ian Klaus tells the extraordinary story of his time teaching in Iraqi Kurdistan," the ex-president said. "He shows how much very different people can learn from each other through shared experiences. A fine book by an exceptional young man."
So Clinton really appreciates the work of one ‘teacher’ in Iraq. That sort of leaves me flat since I haven’t seen him show any appreciation at all for the troops who have made it possible for girls to attend that teacher’s classes, or repair many of the schools for all of the kids to use.
This is typical of the left though. Teachers are the central focus. Essentially they are valued above all others by them. And that is because they are so central to their goals.
If you can minimize the influence of parents and instill all sorts of leftist ideology, you’re on the road toward changing society at large.
This is nowhere more appearant than in our universities, but the full court press to affect change in our younger children is amazing as well.
Thanks for the post. That is one book I will rush out to NOT buy.
Chelsea Clinton did not choose her parents. Until she actually steps in to the political arena, and actively supports them above and beyond the normal support provided by any child of a political parent, I’m not going to condemn her.
Would you like to be judged by the world for the actions of your parents?
Regarding the drinking mentioned in Lady J’s post:
1. College kids and young adults drink and get drunk. That’s life.
2. The Bush girls did the same thing, see point 1, above.
3. Think about who her parents are, if that’s not an excuse to get drunk, I don’t know what is...
Is he a reclusive author? Is his work "good" enough to survive without a book tour and promotion? His publisher won't be happy to hear that he's concerned about maintaining a low profile.
If it DOES make Oprah’s booklist, there are libraries across this country that’ll immediately stock 50 copies of whatever she has selected (a quick way to success).
Chelsea is campaigning for momma this time around. Her hats already in the political ring.
One destined to generate a lot of "wrong" hits in Amazon book searches. Sponging off the names of two big subjects.
What does she do for a living, by the way?
Her last name is Clinton and she still talks to her mother and father.
Do you thinnk she needs any more qualifications for any company that might be interested in gov’t influence ?
BTW I think she works for a hedge fund. As for what she does for them ... see my first sentence.
