The Evil Empire (Yankees) Against The Nation (Redsox)

Well it’s nearly September and Boston sits atop the American League East 8 games ahead of their arch rivals. Wether this series beginning tonight will mean a heck of a lot is yet to be seen, if the Yanks sweep it will still leave them 5 games back with 28 left to play.

Still a lot of ball left.

The thumping handed out to New York courtesy of the Detroit Tigers yesterday (16-0) is truly humiliating for a team so rich in history, world series titles and self absorbency. It requires a shrink to put it in perspective.

The pride of New York suffered the most humiliating defeat in sports history when losing to Boston back in 04″ after being up 3 games to none. Some fans have concluded the team has been cursed since a carpetbagger was elected as a Senator, I can only hope she stays one.

So was all of the money invested on pitchers that should have retired in their prime (with grace) wasted? The starting staff has 3 pitchers who average 40 years of age, their combined salary is 55 Million a years. (Clemens salary is pro-rated) They have a record of 24 wins and 22 losses and an ERA of 4.52

Money well spent? well ask a Yankee fan.

The Sox leads the American League in Bullpen ERA, are second for starting pitching and have more walks than any team in baseball.

Big Poppie has come on as of late, Mike Lowell has been a great showing managers what a mistake walking Manny to pitch to him is. Pedroia has been outstanding, Wakefield has not only been eating up innings but has 16 wins tying the high in wins along with Beckett.

It would be easy to go on about this club, I think it may be even better than the one in 04″

So as we watch the next 3 games Yankee fans can hope for a miracle or hope they can stay close in the Wild Card race.

I’m guessing the latter.

When will these teams figure out the captain can only hit fastballs?

So much for scouting reports.

(Good for us)

I am realistic and know the Yankees are going to be picking pumpkins in October.

I can't think of a better way to spend the off season.

The Evil Empire (Yankees)

LOL! I laughed out loud when I read that. I don't like the Red Sox either, but if I had to choose between them and the Yankees I'd definitely pick the Sox. Lesser of two evils.

There's a great T-shirt that says "I support two teams. The [team name here] and whoever beats the Yankees!"

I have a cool shirt. It says “Boston, a drinking town with a baseball problem”.

LOL! To make it more complete it should say “Boston: A drinking town with a baseball problem and a political disaster”

My father taught me being a Yankee was about hard work, ingenuity and integrity.

Growing up in Connecticut you pick a side, New York Yankees or Boston Redsox, I chose the Sox.
Watching the 67' team when I was 6 made me a Sox fan.

The year of the impossible dream.

Make sense? :-)

There is a new DVD out about the '67 Red Sox. Included in the dvd is the entire tv broadcast of the pennant clinching victory over the twins. It's believed to be the oldest game where the entire actual broadcast still exists.

Yes, it does, and Mr Lincoln agrees with you too :-).

However, the dreaded Yankees defeat the Bosox 4-3 behind the 6-inning no-hit performance of the Rocket over Josh. ARod hits #44. It is crunch time, sportsfans, and each Yankee/Red Sox game is like the 7th game of the World Series. I just love this rivalry.
