Well its nearly September and Boston sits atop the American League East 8 games ahead of their arch rivals. Wether this series beginning tonight will mean a heck of a lot is yet to be seen, if the Yanks sweep it will still leave them 5 games back with 28 left to play.
Still a lot of ball left.
The thumping handed out to New York courtesy of the Detroit Tigers yesterday (16-0) is truly humiliating for a team so rich in history, world series titles and self absorbency. It requires a shrink to put it in perspective.
The pride of New York suffered the most humiliating defeat in sports history when losing to Boston back in 04″ after being up 3 games to none. Some fans have concluded the team has been cursed since a carpetbagger was elected as a Senator, I can only hope she stays one.
So was all of the money invested on pitchers that should have retired in their prime (with grace) wasted? The starting staff has 3 pitchers who average 40 years of age, their combined salary is 55 Million a years. (Clemens salary is pro-rated) They have a record of 24 wins and 22 losses and an ERA of 4.52
Money well spent? well ask a Yankee fan.
The Sox leads the American League in Bullpen ERA, are second for starting pitching and have more walks than any team in baseball.
Big Poppie has come on as of late, Mike Lowell has been a great showing managers what a mistake walking Manny to pitch to him is. Pedroia has been outstanding, Wakefield has not only been eating up innings but has 16 wins tying the high in wins along with Beckett.
It would be easy to go on about this club, I think it may be even better than the one in 04″
So as we watch the next 3 games Yankee fans can hope for a miracle or hope they can stay close in the Wild Card race.
Im guessing the latter.
The Yankees took one of their top 5 worse beatings of all time last night at the hands of the Tigers. 16-0
I watched (tv) that game from about the 4th inning on. The most game I have watched all year. What a game to watch! Go Tigers!
The Yankees just want to setup a dramatic comeback for September.
L;OL!
Ping!
Pingy!
Torre looked like he was chewing his face off from the inside. Better yet was the fact that Rootie was in attendance.
The only musical I ever liked!
Saturday Night Live could use you. (They need something ;-D)
He was? oh man that’s got to hurt!
I'm sure Hillary and Rudi are saddened.
Rootie was in the FSN Detroit broadcast booth and he said he felt like crying.
What a fake, he only cries when he find out how much alimony he has to cough up.
LOL! Yeah, I’m sure Rudy and Joe didn’t enjoy the drubbing as much as I did. Go Tigers!
A guy at work grew up in Detroit and promised me they would take the series, they came through ;-D
The Tigers aren’t doing quite as well this year but overall they’re a better team than they were last year. They’ve had a crippled bullpen with Rogers and Zumaya out and they just went through a two week round with the flu. Now Sheffield is out but the line up is still very strong.
GO YANKEES!
A voice from the dark side. ;-D
