they already butchered Heinlein Starship Troopers in 1997

They sure did. Woman in the Mobile Infantry?

Yes, but it had Dina Meyer, so it's OK...

‘2001’ was great. What were you expecting? Arthur C Clarke co-wrote the script with Kubrick so there was no meddling with the author’s intentions there. ‘2010’ was a mercenary travesty to a movie that ended as definitively as any movie ever made.

Yes. I’m aware that there were changes made. Slavish adaptations rarely work. As film that stands on its own it’s great.

I like to go to bad movies in their fourth week, when there’s no one but me and one other person in the theatre, and I sit right next to them, and wait for them to say something, then turn to them and say “Shhh...I can’t hear Keanu.”

Original ideas don’t always take off. But Hollywood at times can be very successful at blending several things together to form a new whole. The Matrix, Star Wars, the Kill Bill movies and The Big Lebowski are all examples of them taking ideas that have been around and combining them into interesting wholes.

And despite the popular notion that the book is always better than the movie, there are examples of that not being true as well. The Godfather movie is much much better than the book. I also like Fight Club better in movie form, and the author has said at the very least he likes the ending to the movie better than his.

If only...

It was just made for MST3King.

Mike and The 'Bots did a fine job on it. Ironically, the original short story (by John Varley) was excellent. The title was about all it had in common with the movie.

Keanu Reaves is the most overrated actor in hollywood—asside from Ben Affleck. I don’t hold out much hope...
