Sounds like someone decided that this cat was psychic, and the rumor spread, probably regardless of the facts. People die quite often in a place like that. The rumor turned the residents against the cat. Nothing the cat could do about it. Rather pathetic, really.

I do not understand people’s anger at the cat. We all die. We all face death 24/7. I would be very grateful to have such a lovely furry creature acknowledging my presence in my last hours or days. If this cat was murdered may the killer live their afterlife in the pits. The cat did not deserve to die for their fear.
