Lee's `Enter the Dragon' to Get Remake (Why? WHY!?)

HONG KONG - Bruce Lee's classic 1973 film, "Enter the Dragon," will be remade by Warner Bros.

The remake, to be titled "Awaken the Dragon," will be written and directed by Kurt Sutter, producer of "The Shield" TV series. It will be released by Warner Independent Pictures.

In an e-mail Thursday to The Associated Press, Warner Bros. publicist Laura Kim said the movie will tell the story of an FBI agent who investigates a Shaolin monk and underground kung fu fight clubs.

China's Shaolin Temple is renowned for its martial-arts tradition.

Kim declined to reveal the casting choices, budget or shooting schedule.

Lee played a kung fu fighter who infiltrates an island occupied by a rogue martial arts artist in "Enter the Dragon."

He died in 1973, at 32, from swelling of the brain.

Lee was known for movies in which he portrayed characters that defend the Chinese and the working class from oppressors.

He was born in San Francisco but grew up in Hong Kong, where he made his name as an actor.

Amen, amen and amen. There is no way this can compare to the original, and they probably will load it down with ridiculous special effects to try.

I know this is not an original thought on my part, but are they really our of ideas? The number of remakes lately is just astonishing.

They are out of ideas. Some of these “remakes” are merely high dollar re-release campaigns to drum up interest in the originals (and in this case the advertising itself is also a product that the gullible will buy at the box office).

And Broadway is doing a lot of adaptations of movies to stage.

So there is no creativity in the mass media anymore. Big media is too big for its own britches. There are good original works being made but the big guys would rather suppress them than challenge the status quo.

It’ll be put into constant rotation on cable (where you’ve ALREADY paid for the movies they are showing) until it shows a profit. Look at the Batman film with Arnold...

Bruce Lee films should be left alone.

And "The Crow" sequels should never have been made out of respect for Brandon.

Hollywood keeps remaking films because they lack original ideas, want to take the easy way out, and change classics to reflect their political agenda - such as the disastrous remake of “The Manchurian Candidate.”

They are also remaking Escape from New York with Gerard Butler playing Snake Plissken. Hopefully Len Wiseman convinces his wife, Kate Beckinsale, to be fully nude in the background of every shot. That is the only way I can come up with for this movie to be a good idea.

A few years ago, Bruce Lee’s “Fist of Fury” was remade into Jet Li’s “Fist of Legend”. I thought the Jet Li remake was better.

So who would win in a fight? Chuck Norris or Bruce Lee? :-)
