He claimed Linksys wouldn’t exist without Linux, which is total bunk of course, most of their products never used Linix and the 54G that did had it ripped off. Whine all you want his claim is total BS and typical linux fanboism at the extreme.
Please see post 35 and try to seperate the forrest from the trees..
Because I use software based on its utility. There's a lot I don't like about Microsoft as a company, and about some of their products, but the simple fact is that .NET is a good platform to program on. I would switch to something else right now if I were a philosophical software radical like you and Stallman, but I'm not.
defending foreign criminals who hack OSX to run on generic PCs,
And you have yet to show where in the law they could possibly be subject to criminal prosecution given the evidence we have. Quit making such libelous claims. What they did was violate a likely unenforceable, overreaching term of a license (civil matter), and an MPAA-purchased provision of the DMCA pushed by the Democrats and signed by Clinton that (based on what we know) would subject them to a civil complaint.
LOL I strongly doubt you have any control over what you’re paid to develop, especially if it’s for a government system. More likely you’re stuck having to use something you hate just to put food on your table. Pretty hilarious in fact, you hate Gates and company but are ordered to use it at work LOL.
Lie. He claimed "they would still be a niche maker of cheap hardware." How can you lie like that when the proof of your lie is just a few lines above it?
And he's right. Linksys was relegated to selling a few cheap hubs, cards and cables mainly through Fry's and Best Buy (both small chains at the time) until that router came out. That Linux router built up Linksys so much, selling millions of units, that they were worth half a billion dollars to Cisco only four years after its introduction.
I have 100% control over what I develop for myself, and for that I choose .NET using C#. You and Stallman see everything through these sick philosophical filters, so much that you both simply can't understand choosing software on its merit.
Good, then quit making false claims that free software hurts the economy, because we have shown you numerous business built on, and profiting from, free software. Bill Gates was the one who made the software valuable in its own right. Until then it was all about the hardware. Thus in part the industry is returning to its roots.
He wants us to pay a software tax
What do you expect, he's a liberal. The rest of us want software to win on merit with a level playing field. The creator of Linux also wants this. We don't care what a leftist kook and his followers want.
and quote make proprietary software obsolete
If the market leads to that happening, then so be it. If you have a problem with that, then you have a problem with capitalism.
ROFL no you didn't, you claimed Linksys which has barely used Linux in their product lines and the 1 part number that had it the 54G has been replaced with vxworks! How much more deceiving could youu be, stay tuned and we'll find out LOL.
If you have a problem with that, then you have a problem with capitalism
No I have a problem with foreign clones designed to steal business from US companies, and the leftist whackos that want to replace those companies with a software tax. You calling that "capitalism" is a perfect example of your absurdity.
There you go again, bringing politics into software, where it doesn't belong. By definition, you will NOT get the best software for the job if you shop politically. Not getting the best software for the job (considering all practical factors) is just plain stupid. But I guess that's why they promoted you to where you can do no more harm.
but Im too conservative to compromise my principles and use Stallmans software any more than absolutely necessary
Funny, Stallman says essentially the same thing himself, only he won't use proprietary software. See, I told you that you two were very much alike, more than anyone here, even more than Torvalds.
I can only imagine the howls if I admitted I had to program Linux for a paycheck
Only because you are philosophical, and we're not. You have admitted you had to use Linux at work, but your complete ignorance of the system leads us to not believe you. You seemed to claim great security knowledge, but your complete ignorance of that area makes us not believe you there either (especially with your failed nmap test).
the fact you have to use Microsoft despite your obvious hatred of Gates is hysterical.
It's not funny at all given my pragmatic approach to software. Besides, there is a lot I admire about Gates. As far as .NET for Windows, it is a great platform trapped in a mediocre operating system (Mono's not quite there yet). In fact, free software developers liked C# so much they started Mono so they could use the language to program for Linux.
To be fair, I did word it very poorly the first time I mentioned linksys the onus was on me to be more clear but in typical troll fashion he latched on to *one* word of the post to ignore the fact that Linux has helped many a business start..
Lie. Listed in 27 and 35.
you claimed Linksys which has barely used Linux in their product lines
They used it in the one product line that accounts for most of the company's rise to success. Linksys counts as a success story.
and the 1 part number that had it the 54G has been replaced with vxworks!
That's plain not true. Linksys currently lists GPL source code for over 20 major products, not even counting minor versions (I counted all 17 WRT products, including the 54G, as one).
Purposeful lie? Ignorance while being too lazy to look it up at the Linksys site before making the claim? Pick one to explain what you wrote.
“You or another fanboi will probably whine to the moderator about this post, but TW is a common term and not profane.”
It is quite profane, and inflammatory! especially because using the best tool for the job does not make one a prostitute. If someone called you’re wife/mother/sister/daughter *anything* with that word in it I would hope as a man you would not take it lightly, I sure would not. And while AR could probably care less I have female family members who read this site, and young family member who read this site and that type of language is completely uncalled for!
Wow, what a label! So, wisely choosing technology based on the merits makes someone a "techno whore." And here I thought it was just common sense and smart business practice. I didn't know I was supposed to choose inferior software because I don't like a guy behind it. You mean I should have stopped using Photoshop and started using the GPL Gimp after Adobe had Skylarov arrested?
You or another fanboi will probably whine to the moderator
I have a feeling that nobody needs to complain anymore, and the moderator just looks in on you specially to see if you're trolling to hard.
Apologies for quoting the term.
Thanks, Im a bit of a prude when it comes to that, I have two daughters, two sisters, a wife, a mother, and more than a half dozen nieces.
If he had said it in a vacuume that would have been one thing but the tone, intention, and volume behind it made it unacceptable. This is why I normally filter him out but in the wake of SCO getting KA-A-RUSHED by novell I thought I would enjoy the view..
Wow, Did they leave anything! It basically says
SCO a company in UTAH that used to be called Caldera that bought some stuff, and sued some people. The end..
They added and kept the whole "We own UNIX" (oops, no they don't) press release shtick.
