And he did it in how many years versus theirs?.......
It was great golf. I was very happy that Tiger won.
I LOVE to see someone who is the best at what they do triumph; proving their talent. Tiger is a phenom- and he’s a helluva good looking guy to boot! Right attitude, gorgeous smile,he is a force to be reckoned with and he lives up to his name.
Bravo Tiger- another smackdown!
Tiger also has all of the majors (Masters, British and U.S. Open and PGA) in those 13 victories...those others don’t. Of the majors the U.S. is probably the most coveted but the Masters stands out as the real crown jewel of golf and, by the time he’s finished, Tiger will have more Green Jackets in his closet than Jack, Arnie and Gary combined!
Then again, Tiger didn't have to play against Palmer, Trevino, Watson, Player, Watson, and Miller on a regular basis. Those legends are far superior to Singh, Mickelson, Els, Furyk, and Duval. .....by a wide margin.
Not to diminish Tiger’s accomplishments, but I heard something from a local sports talker that got me thinking.
I always thought today’s golfers are the best, and Tiger dominates those golfers. Tiger wilts whoever he plays with on the final day.
The local sports talker had a different take. Today’s golfers are pampered babies. When things go wrong, they have tons of excuses and whines. Back in the day, they played on rough courses, bumpy greens, with persimmon woods and steel shafted irons, for lots less money. Point being, the golfers of the previous era, Palmer, Nicklaus, Player, were, as a group, tougher than today’s golfers.
Interesting, and impossible to prove one way or the other. But, I think I agree.
But, I still think Tiger is the best ever. I used to root against him, I rejected the hype. Now I love to watch him play.
But I do have a beef. Tiger... cut the bad language. Golf is a gentleman’s game. It’s not just Tiger, today’s golfers are really letting go with the bad language. I think the PGA needs to address this. The players are getting worse and worse. I caught a “damn it” and a “G damn it” from Tiger yesterday. A 2 stroke penatly would fix the problem in a hurry.
Vanity, indeed. Calvecki-who? Fury-who? David Frost- Famous poet? Big Lib media type? Certainly puts Woodsy’s 13th in perspective for me. What was it Limbaugh said about McNabb, that the NFL and the media needed a well-behaved, black hero for their highlight reels and headlines?
Pretty rarified air:
Sam Snead - 82
Jack Nicklaus - 73
Ben Hogan - 64
Arnold Palmer - 62
Tiger Woods - 59
Byron Nelson - 52
Billy Casper - 51
Walter Hagen - 44
Cary Middlecoff - 40
Gene Sarazen - 39
Tom Watson - 39
Tiger is getting a real clear idea of how he has been doing in his game. He has talked golf with top players of the past and is very able to put his career into perspective.
For the most part, golf is meaningless to me;However, watching Tiger obliterate the Master’s in ‘97 was amazing.
Tiger is a walking legend. Best thing to do is to watch him and enjoy the ride. Better yet, go see him play in person, it will make for great stories for your young children or grandchildren when you can tell stories about watching the best golfer ever to have walked this earth...to date.

I love Woods and he lives about 3 miles from me.
However, when he is in the lead, it’s just boring and predictable. And I can take that because I love golf.
But I can barely listen to the broadcasts as the mouths practically drool on the guy. It isn’t Tiger’s fault, but there are a boat load of self-loathing, guilty white-liberals who USE Tiger as a means of gaining their liberal bonafides. Tiger’s a smart guy and I’m sure he’s aware of it.
Tiger is , however the only athlete/sports player (I am not sure golfers are athletes) who delivers on the hype. Just like watching Brady and Manning, Tiger is history in the making and fans should appreciate it.
Scratch my first statement, Manning and Brady deliver on the hype too.
One time, on a rainy Sunday afternoon when football season was over, I tried watching a game of golf on the television. I was bored beyond belief. A bunch of guys in expensive polo shirts and white pants walking around all these grassy areas trying to knock a tiny white ball into a tiny hole that can sometimes be hundreds of yards away!
That said, I'm not trying to say anything bad about people who play the game or like watching the game. After all, different strokes for different folks. Some golf fans might find my fascination with billiards just as odd. (After all, that is also a game of knocking balls into holes if you stop to think about it.)
So maybe somebody can explain the appeal of golf to me and maybe I will learn to appreciate the game more.
Anyway, this Tiger Woods has been making the news a lot lately. He must be a very good golf player. How does one get really good at such a game? I mean, it seems to me that it is a game of luck as much as skill. For example, how do you get good at teeing off. How can you possibly get good at aiming ball at a hole a quarter of a mile away? I'm sure some are better at it than others but based on my miniature golf experience, it's tough enough aiming a golf ball at a hole even 10 yards away!
Speaking of miniature golf, I do like that game a little bit. I take the kids to a miniature golf course once in a while. I like the holes where you shoot the ball through all these contraptions and then it shows up on the other side (almost like magic). I've even gotten a hole-in-one from time to time on a miniature golf course. So I guess I do have some natural skill for the game should I ever want to apply myself.
