Putting Tiger's 13th major in perspective (Vanity)

Posted on 08/13/2007 7:16:07 AM PDT by PurpleMan

Tiger won his 13th major. All of these notable active players only have 13 victories (or less). Amazing

Mark Calcavecchia - 13 David Duval - 13 Jim Furyk - 13 Paul Azinger - 12 David Toms - 12 John Cook - 11 Scott Hoch - 11 Steve Elkington - 10 David Frost - 10 Justin Leonard - 10 Jay Haas - 9 Kenny Perry - 9

A list of everyone is here (from the Golf Channel) http://146.145.120.3/default.asp?c=thegolfchannel&page=golf-m/stat/alltime-pga-winners.htm

Tiger has already won 12 times Jack's career earnings

Seriously, I'd expect far better from you. Countless average current PGA players have exceeded Jack's earnings. In fact, any 1st place finish in any tourney these days will make you more than Sam Snead (82 PGA wins) made in his entire career. And guess what -- a bench warmers making the MLB minimum make more than Ty Cobb ever dreamed of. Your tying earnings to accomplishment between generations is too weak to fathom.

Try extricating your head from Tiger's ass and you might think more clearly.

Put me on the golf ping list please.

Speaking of Ping, I’m going to pick up my reshafted G5’s right now.

Hit’em long and straight!

His competition is weak by comparison, unfortunately. If all Jack had to compete against were the likes of Els, Mickelson, Furyk, Goosen, and Singh he'd have won 30+ majors.

I've said for a while that Duval was ruined after having been annointed as the new challenger to Tiger. Sergio may go there someday too. Mickelson? Don't get me started...LOL.

Mickelson, Garcia, and Duval. Interesting group.

Duval appeared to have lost his game at the same time he lost his weight (probably around 50 lbs). Eventually gained back the weight, but not the game.

Sergio is destined to always be a bridesmaid. ....and an increasingly bitter one.

Mickelson is by far the most talented and likable of that bunch, but one minor setback (in the grand scheme of a career) can set him off on a tailspin of indecision, lack of discipline, and self-doubt. Very sensitive chap.

Mickelson has the talent but I’m beginning to think he’s a head case. He seems to shoot himself in the foot. He gets himself into contention and then blows up. And while I’ve always tried to like him, he made that much harder after his whining about the conditions at the US Open.

Your tying earnings to accomplishment between generations is too weak to fathom.

Try taking your head out of your own ass and you might understand what I wrote. The point is that the prize money and endorsements in golf today have raised the level of competition and quality of play to an unprecedented level. It is a global game. You have a much larger pool of talent than Jack's and SArnie's day. Tiger is also ahead of Jack's timeline in terms of tournaments won and majors won against better conmpetition. Those are facts.

Golf is much different than baseball where the competition from other sports and increase in the number of MLB teams has diluted the talent pool. MLB would be in a sorry state without the infusion of talent from Latin America and Asia. That is not the case with golf, which has increased the talent pool, here and abroad.

There are very few sports that have not become better due to better athletes who are bigger, stronger, and more talented, e.g., track and field, swimming, football, basketball, tennis, soccer, etc. Golf is not an exception.

Try extricating your head from Tiger's ass and you might think more clearly.

LOL. When you have to resort to personal attacks to try to make a point, you show your true colors. We were having a spirited, civil discussion before that. Discussion over. We will agree to disagree.

Tournaments/majors won by a whisker in the same timeline. But against better competition? Your ignornace is staggering.

Good points. Even though things looked in hand, he almost played too conservative on the back 9. Ernie and Woody were awesooe on the back, damned if Woody makes that bird and gives ETW something to think about down the stretch.
And Woody’s presser-the best I have EVER heard!

I can sense the sarcasm! I mean who COULDN’T respect what he said and how he said it. It was blunt, direct and from the heart. I know for a fact ETW respects him for it.
Watch the 2 of them be paired together in the President’s Cup.

Sabbatini is a good guy. He is a major supporter where I donate to the troops.

And he hates slow play as well. I like him for that alone.

“He’s probably one who’d accuse Tiger of steriod use, too.”

Just by looking at photographs of him I thought Tiger took steroids too. It was just a guess.

Do they test for it in golf?

No, they don't test for 'roids in golf. Tiger is on record as strongly supporting testing immediately.

David Duval has 13? Wow! What happened to that guy.

Tiger is , however the only athlete/sports player (I am not sure golfers are athletes) who delivers on the hype. Just like watching Brady and Manning, Tiger is history in the making and fans should appreciate it.

Scratch my first statement, Manning and Brady deliver on the hype too.
