I need some advice and opinions on buying some kitchen stuff.

Long story short, I am doing some renovation work at my house soon and am deciding on which items to get for my kitchen. So far, I am getting a viking oven, a sub zero fridge, probably getting broan range hood, but am a bit torn on a dishwasher and other stuff.

Whats the best dishwasher, Bosch or Miele?

Is Viking the best oven?

Is sub-zero (not the mortal kombat character) the best fridge?

The oven is going to be a 60 inch viking with grill and griddle, is this the best choice?

I am kind of torn on which sub-zero fridge to get, between 648 pro ( a side by side, I wonder if I can fit a pizza box in there? and 736TC (I), a top and bottom type fridge.

Also what is the best range hood out there, and is there anything I am missing or not thinking about that I should also be getting?

Also, not just the best top of the line companies, but also what are the best models?

Microwaves can’t really “bake” a potato can they? I’m kind of a baked potato enthusiast, so I dunno.

I don't think so, but looking on the web, folks have tried it, but it seems the advantium, is the best one, if one wants to do it, so I'm trying to more research on it.

There are several models, and I am not even sure a couple of them really qualify as microwaves as much as they seem like ovens with microwave features built in.

You’ve given this person excellent advice. The quartz is so far superior to the “trendy wave” of granite that when homeowners learn about it they gladly pay the difference. Meanwhile, builders and renovators still get away with using granite which, by the way, has a warranty which expires as soon as the fabricator’s truck leaves the dirveway. The quartz - “an engineered stone” - on the other hand requires no maintenance like sealing and carries a 10 year manufacturer’s warranty. I personally prefer Cambria because they have 34 colors which I can sell all at one price instead of 4 or more “color categories”. I personally think there will be a lot of granite being replaced over the coming years as people wise up to its porosity which allows it to absorb both stains and bacteria. Either spend the extra money now or do it all over again in a few years. My own website is www.countertopsalesonline.com where you can look at many brands and choices, but I can’t help you unless you live in Middle Tennessee.

One bit of advice I heard from a very affluent client of mine last week was an insurance policy they have on all the stuff like that in their home. The premium is based on square footage of the house and some other factors, but they said they pay about $70 a month and if anything breaks, they pay $35 deductible. With the appliances you’re considering, you might want to look into something along those lines.

GE Advantium ovens have a menu, preprogrammed with various items, such as breakfast menu things, breads, meats etc. There is also a manual dial that you can set the power levels of an upper heating light and a lower heating light, as well as microwave power and the time for the cycle. It will get things crispy, and baked potatoes are lightning fast. There are two different types of trays to use: Black metal ones for baking with the lights and micro; a white resin tray for regular microwaving.

We have used ours quite a lot for biscuits and those orange rolls that come in a tube. Baked potatoes too. We don't fix them any other way. Of course, all the usual things as well.

Things I don't like, are that the vent fan is worthless and if you have several burners going underneath an over the range mounted Advantium, the fan will kick in until it cools down. The fan is loud too.

It had a switch problem in the door latch twice.

Ours is the 220 version. More power (insert Tim The Toolman sound here)

Our Advantium makes GREAT baked potatoes. If you turn up the time a couple of extra minutes, it even gives the skin that crisp, baked kind of feel to it. The super-hot lights heat instantly and cook the outside while the microwaves cook the inside. It’s nice to have baked tators available as an afterthought. Tonight I had just started a couple of steaks on the grill and yelled at my wife to throw a couple spuds in. Everything was ready at the same time.

That was the first piece of advice my lawyer gave to me, we are already going aheady going ahead thinking that.

I am not set yet, but I am probably going to go with an advantium, biscuits and baked potatos are a huge selling point for me, the biggest thing is for me to learn how to make adjustement, right now I have a model in mind, SCA2001KSS.

It seems perfect, but later on, I will put out a post asking freepers, how good it actually is.

Viking is impressive in their advertising, but I am convinced their laurels are pretty worn from resting on them.

I bought a 48” Viking 6 years ago and I would not get another one. Their customer service sucks, and we have had many problems with the oven in particular. We run propane and cook for 20, so we need professional performance in all our appliances.

I would encourage you to consider anything but the over the stove model. The vent fan is just so loud and worthless. I'm not convinced that the fan moves any air at all but it still sounds like a Cessna taking off at the airport.

We can't even consider things like blackened fish anymore. That coupled with the fact that when the cook-top burners heat it up and the fan kicks in. You can hardly have a conversation. Maybe they have addressed this problem as I see the Advantiums now for sale look nothing like my older one.

Don't get me wrong, I like it and would probably get another but it would be a wall mounted one instead of over the stove.

I take back what I said. I was looking at the wrong ones. The SCA 2001 still looks exactly like the older ones.I guess you could ask the salesman to see if they fixed the fan issue. heh heh I’m sure the salesman will know, care and tell the truth. /s

Oh, another tip. We bought silicon muffin trays , meatloaf and casserole dishes. They are well suited to the Advantium cooking environment. GE should offer more accessories such as this.

You might also investigate Sharp, who makes a convection microwave. I know nothing about them but a friend has one that she likes.

Speaking of sinks. When you buy the faucets, go with Kohler. They are the best for the money, and every single part has a lifetime guarantee, with the nicest customer service I have ever encountered.

We bought a shower from them, and when my husband was installing it, a small tab broke off. It was totally his fault, but instead of replacing the whole thing I called Kohler and explained the situation. I actually told her that my husband had broken the tab because he had misread the instructions and thought he was supposed to (HA HA, he will never live this down), I asked her about the possibility of replacing the part, and she said "no problem, I will send it out today". After asking for the price (after all it was not a product defect, just a husband defect), she said "no, even if it was his fault, it shouldn't have happened". We got the part, overnight mail (again at no cost) and installed the rest of the shower the next day.

That day, Kohler made themselves a customer for life (not to mention the many people I have told the story too).

I sold appliances for about a year so for what it's worth:

Viking. There's a reason why the Viking label is so big. It's so there can be no doubt that you own one. So if you want status, go Viking. If you want performance, go Wolf or Thermador.

Sub-Zero is probably your best bet in built in refrigerators.

Look at the Fisher & Paykel diswashers. Dual drawer model. If the drawer design doesn't float your boat then Bosch is OK. Kitchenaid is just as quiet and can be a few bucks cheaper.

A lot of good range hoods out there. Go with whatever design you like the most, just make sure that you get a very powerful blower motor. Regardless of which range you get it's going to put out a lot of heat.

Thank you for contacting me and I will put your website in favorites.

We put our house on the market on Monday had a showing on TH and second on Saturday with an offer....outstanding considering the market here in IN is horrible. I know of homes that have been on the market for months if not a year.

I will be moving to Dallas so my husband and I will be looking for a home and if we need counter tops I will be contacting you.

My current home has Corian and I love it but the quartz is so pretty. When I look at granite there are to many you can’ts and you have too’s. I like the no hassle approach.

I reheated a baked potato in a microwave. I poked holes in it. It still blew up and caught on fire. Haven’t done it since.
