What does this mean? For example, replacing the 24-inch model with ...what?
All of the iMac models are being replaced. The most notable replacement is the old 17-inch model, which is now discontinued and replaced by a 20-inch model.
"New iMac will come in two sizes: 20-inch display, and 24-inch display. Both will be glossy. Customers say they love glossy displays."
Apple has gone the all-metal-and-black route. Sexy, but cold, like a metal modern art sculpture. Even Leopard’s interface eliminates the last of the aqua graphics for a total brushed steel look. Leopard is certified as a true Unix. The transition is complete. NeXT has eaten Apple alive.
Part of me likes this (because of my Unix background), but part of me is disturbed at the way Apple is abandoning the warm, human touch it was famous for in its designs. This iMac is the polar opposite of Jonathan Ive’s groundbreaking colored iMac line, which made the computer a piece of functional art on your desk, and helped make using a computer a joy again.
I’m going to miss the translucent and white computers with their curvy, rounded, more natural feel. I’m not all that enthusiastic about that aluminum keyboard, either. My current white plastic Apple keyboard is the best one I’ve ever owned.
I’ll give them a chance, but it seems to me that Apple is abandoning its principles in terms of human interface design.
My impression is that Apple is eliminating the 'brushed metal' user interface on the screen. Now it will be on the casing where it belongs.
I stopped by the Apple store today.
Thinking of taking the plunge.
The Mac Book Pro 15” is $2000. Sounds expensive but...
when I got home I went to the Dell site and tried to price a comparable PC.
Pricing an Inspiron w/ similar equipment it came to $1900. And the Inspiron is clunky compared to the Mac. An XPS, the closest Dell as far as size goes, would have likely been more.
I’m going to wait until Oct. and get the Mac w/ Leopard.
The iMacs are a thing of beauty IMHO.
Reminds me of Marantz Audio yrs. ago. Clean, few buttons and dials, simple, the best.
