The Hobbit Hole XXXIV - But better than rain or rippling streams...

Posted on 08/07/2007 7:52:15 AM PDT by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Sing hey! for the bath at close of day
That washes the weary mud away!
A loon is he that will not sing:
O! Water Hot is anoble thing!

O! Sweet is the sound of falling rain.
and the brook that leaps from hill to plain;
but better than rain or rippling streams
is Water Hot that smokes and steams.

O! Water cold we may pour at need
down a thirsty throat and be glad indeed;
but better is Beer, if drink we lack,
and Water Hot poured down the back.

O! Water is fair that leaps on high
in a fountain white beneath the sky;
but never did fountain sound so sweet
as splashing Hot Water with my feet!

I didn’t realize it was a triple precious ‘till just now. It’s shiny.

I’m giving my heroine emotional issues over which guy is better: the English major grad student who has liked her for ages, or the hot-headed guy who’s been inside her head and makes her feel just a little weak-kneed...

Heh...I keep forgetting that not every Hobbit Holer has met every other!

I think Overtaxed holds the record in that category, but I come close...

I still haven’t met Bear and Rose, though, among others.

We need another Entmoot. :-\

Who? Me?

Completely off-topic....

...I was adding some stuff to my Netflix queue. There’s a very long wait for “Francis the Talking Mule.” Go figure.

I think I like “Francis Goes to West Point” the best. :)

No good will come of me mentioning this. I was channel surfing the other night and came across “Legally Blonde: The Musical” on MTV.

I must admit one of the funniest scenes was the court room scene where they try to decide if the pool boy is “Gay or European.”

Oh, my, that does sound amusing! You reckon the video is on YouTube?

Pvt David was all grins when I gave him the knife.

Thanks

I just did the mailing. The spirit behind it is the entire Hobbit Hole.

the English major grad student who has liked her for ages,

*sigh* Who doesn't love Mr. Darcy? I mean really.

I indulged in silly emotional fluff to pad the word count, too. I just had to have my character in a kilt early on, and him being in the wedding party at a highland wedding was just the ticket. She goes from mad to sad to happy to sad to skeptical, to normal. It was painful to write, it’s painful to describe! Ack! Angst! Jealousy! Misunderstanding! Anger! But the scene ends on the dance floor, where to the music of a ceilidh band, he leads out in a perfect country two-step, which the lead female characters flash back that they had spent months trying to teach him that and thought he was a complete failure. He was just foolin’ all along! It’s a play on the idea of a Scottish Country Dance, which is much like our square dancing. Very prescribed and formal. Scottish guy dancing an American country dance! Ah well, guess you had to be there. :)

Mr Darcy’s kind of a wimp, really. Of all of Austen’s guys, the one I liked the best was Colonel Brandon. He actually took action when it was called for.

Oooh good point. Alas, the dilemma:

Colin Firth as Darcy or Alan Rickman as Brandon.... hmmm.
