The Hobbit Hole XXXIV - But better than rain or rippling streams...

Posted on 08/07/2007 7:52:15 AM PDT by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Sing hey! for the bath at close of day
That washes the weary mud away!
A loon is he that will not sing:
O! Water Hot is anoble thing!

O! Sweet is the sound of falling rain.
and the brook that leaps from hill to plain;
but better than rain or rippling streams
is Water Hot that smokes and steams.

O! Water cold we may pour at need
down a thirsty throat and be glad indeed;
but better is Beer, if drink we lack,
and Water Hot poured down the back.

O! Water is fair that leaps on high
in a fountain white beneath the sky;
but never did fountain sound so sweet
as splashing Hot Water with my feet!

Woot, I managed to call home for my parents’ 25 anniversary. Hit it without really remembering that today was the day.

They share an anniversary with the people who were hit by the cow.

So their chances of getting hit by a cow are a little less, then.

I guess.

They’re trying to get some fosterbabies for their anniversary actually, I guess four boys at home isn’t enough.

Oh, that’s vey nice!! Having it encased in the Lucite will keep it from getting banged up in your purse, too!

Pretty much, yeah. They’ve done the training. Mom said they put in for one or two baby girls, age 0 to 1, and now suddenly they’re on the list for “up to three siblings, up to age 3, as long as one is a girl”.

When do you plan on posting Chapter II or you going to make us wait for the movie? :-)

I'm not sure how much more is ready for prime time. I might consider Chapter II, but that's probably as far as I'm willing to go without major edits.

My ‘85 Pontiac did that thing with the doors locking and unlocking on their own and I got the same response from the dealer as you have been given. I finally fixed it by just pulling out the fuse that as assigned to the door locks. Problem solved! LSA

I may have to do that if it gets worse...but the panic thing was something else again!

I also have no light behind the shift indicator, so at night I have to remember how many clicks I’ve gone so I don’t try to drive fast in the wrong gear. ;-) Occasionally I only make it to neutral and think I’m in drive, and gun it loudly instead of actually moving. Oops...

Heh... reminds me of why I wouldn’t have a car alarm again. Though, yes, yours isn’t an alarm it’s the sort of malfunction that made me get rid of my car alarm before.

In my (then) new 86 Accord, had a really nice aftermarket Alpine many-speaker many-watt stereo in it. As it turned out, a few different Alpine stereos in it.

After losing the first one to thieves I got a super-duper top end Alpine alarm system to go along with the replacement stereo. It had not just bells, but whistles. It had a *pager* (this was in 86!) that was set off by the alarm. Very cool... I thought.

I could talk about false alarms. Maybe two or three a week. My neighbors in the apartment complex of the time really hated... *hated* me and my g#@#amn alarm. I don’t blame them. One of the sources of false alarms was the glass-breakage detector. All you had to do was break a beer bottle in the parking lot within a hundred yards of the car, and it would go off. Turns out that any imperfection in the glass, say a small rock chip in the windshield, whenever it fell below freezing and ice would form in the tiny crack and expand ever so little and imperceptably go... [chink]... then BLAMMO off goes the alarm at 3am and does the wakey-wakey thing for not just me but all my neighbors.

Once my car alarm went off when the car *next* to mine was broken into. Except this time it wasn’t at home, it was downtown someplace while I was in a movie, and for the first time ever, my pager alarm goes off. I go running out of the theatre out to the car... and it isn’t even mine.

Yeesh. Never again.

Nobody pays any attention to car alarms anyway. There’s just no point.

Now both of my cars have just a little red “alarm” blinky light on the dash... but it does nothing at all. It’s just a little blinky light.

And most important: I’ll never buy an aftermarket stereo again. The Mustang has a “Ford” stereo. Nobody is going to steal a “Ford” stereo. Even though it’s made by Blaupunkt and it’s got 200 watts and eight speakers and really, sincerely, is a kickin’ system... it’s got no value as a theft item. Even though with the top down at 100mph you can still not hear the scream of the wind over and above the insane volume of say... AC/DC “Back in Black”.

Or, whatever. :-)

No more Alpine for me.

No light? Could that just be a little lightbulb that has burned out? LSA

That’s what I thought at first, but at this point three different places in three different states have told me it’s a fuse problem, and said fuse is in a place that would involve a ton of work and therefore be vey pricey. I’ve decided I can live with it.

mornin’...I’m still wakin’ up but got to drive to a bored meeting today then rehearsal tonite...

Virginia GOP held onto the House and narrowly lost the Senate last night. Coulda been much worse.

In other newz, “Ward” has gone on sabbatical. It may be permanent this time. I’m thinking of emerging with a non (or at least) less political blog in January using “Corin Stormhands” instead of a pen name. If I’m serious about this writing thing, I need to do it. So we’ll see.

Y’all have a good day.

I am seriesly thinking that this NaNovel could be the story to edit the heck out of and then give a try at selling. We’ll see.

Have fun or whatever the appropriate adjective is!
