The Hobbit Hole XXXIV - But better than rain or rippling streams...

Posted on 08/07/2007 7:52:15 AM PDT by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Sing hey! for the bath at close of day
That washes the weary mud away!
A loon is he that will not sing:
O! Water Hot is anoble thing!

O! Sweet is the sound of falling rain.
and the brook that leaps from hill to plain;
but better than rain or rippling streams
is Water Hot that smokes and steams.

O! Water cold we may pour at need
down a thirsty throat and be glad indeed;
but better is Beer, if drink we lack,
and Water Hot poured down the back.

O! Water is fair that leaps on high
in a fountain white beneath the sky;
but never did fountain sound so sweet
as splashing Hot Water with my feet!

Ok - my exposition is voluminous and dull. But there it is. Halo Alba! I’m callin’ it a nite.

Okiedokie - Im aiming to have about 6 pages done, but I am cheating here - I am starting off with the 'blurb' that I jotted down months ago to begin the idea of this book. I am writing up three tonite (Its what I figured would be to satisfy the 1667 words I need.

So do I post the whole thing on my account at NaNo or just an excerpt? What do I do next?

Ouch! Hope that side affect wears off soon! I don't know the last time I had an MMR. I'm assuming that I'll need a booster, thought I know I had measles when I was younger. I had a tetanus shot in 2001. I stepped on something in my sister's yard. It poked a hole right through my flip flops and into my foot.

I just remembered that Joseph is going to need to have his immunizations up to date before he applies for college. He hasn't had a Meningitis vaccine, and he'll need that before college. Not sure that he needs anything else; he'd been up to date before he went to high school in the 9th grade.

I think it still counts.

It was a Vigil Mass; it counts. Since we did the Trick or Treat thing last night, we went to 7pm Mass tonight. Joseph was amazed that we were in and out in 35 minutes. Turns out, not having music makes it MUCH shorter. ;o)

Nope, I'm doing the remodel thingy. Put the second coat of thick primer on the fronts of the cabinet doors today. Gonna sand one of them tomorrow to see how the coverage has been, and if it has filled in the grain of the wood sufficiently to start finish painting them.

AAAWWWWWW - how cute!!!

Im so happy! I started out with about 1667 words because I picked up where I left off with a short bit that I got my idea for my novel on and added another 1660 words.

I have NO idea how its going to go tomorrow though...*sigh*

Until the end of the month, you can update word count just by typing in whatever your word processor gives you as a word count. Validation doesn’t come until later.

I didn’t have much time to write today, but I did get in close to 2000, which ain’t bad considering.

And I’m up too late again. Ungh. At least tomorrow is Friday! Hopefully it’ll be less of a disaster than today was.

It seems I’ve missed a large mini-drama.

I’m glad to hear the Mr. is doing ok.

Almost everyone is capable of "murder."

See, first you have to define "murder." Are we talking about taking a life in hot blood, or cold?

If hot, then I think we're all capable of that. But I think the more intelligent, the more likely a person is capable of cold-blooded premeditated --- aye, meticulously planned --- murder.

Next, was it a necessary killing? And is there such a thing as a necessary killing? I think there's a sheaf of plausible scenarios wherein you're forced to be what Heinlein called a "live lion."

It's a problem of definition ...

I meant to sleep in a bit. But I was up earlier than usual, fretting about problems I can’t fix. Grrr.

Ooooh - good questions. My other plot, the one that got vetoed for my terrorist story is full of "define murder" questions: Is a pre-meditated self defense murder?

FMC is on the run from a stalker who has taken everything from her. First was her job, then her husband, whose death was suspicious. The stalker would break into the house and install surveillance equipment (over and over again), he made threats to her safety, he followed her everywhere, and law enforcement seemed unable to help. In fear of her own life and having nothing left to lose, she walks away. Somewhere on her journey into a new identity she decides she is tired of running, that she is going to stand and fight... if she ever runs into her stalker again, that is.

And then one day she does. She sees him (he's driving her old car - vey creepy), but he does not see her. He is looking for her, investigating a tenuous lead, but has no hard evidence that she is in fact in that town. She turns the tables and begins to stalk him, leaving tantalizing little clues that keep him in town. From his/her car, she steals a box of the surveillance equipment (that he used to 'bug' her house) and sets it up in the shed where she's living. Then she arranges for a phone call to be made alerting him to her whereabouts. When he arrives in the dead of night, she is ready. She shouts to him to get away, she has a gun, she will protect herself. He advances anyway and she shoots him dead. All caught on his surveillance equipment.

Izzit murder?

There's a doozy of a twist at the end, which I won't share right now, but I'm quite proud of. 'Cuz I'm not very good at crazy-cool plot twists.

Didn’t get much more done last night. I did post my first chapter.

Alkhin, I tried to add you as a buddy, but I can’t seem to find the option on the Nano website. Seems like it was easier last year.
