The Hobbit Hole XXXIV - But better than rain or rippling streams...

Posted on 08/07/2007 7:52:15 AM PDT by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Sing hey! for the bath at close of day
That washes the weary mud away!
A loon is he that will not sing:
O! Water Hot is anoble thing!

O! Sweet is the sound of falling rain.
and the brook that leaps from hill to plain;
but better than rain or rippling streams
is Water Hot that smokes and steams.

O! Water cold we may pour at need
down a thirsty throat and be glad indeed;
but better is Beer, if drink we lack,
and Water Hot poured down the back.

O! Water is fair that leaps on high
in a fountain white beneath the sky;
but never did fountain sound so sweet
as splashing Hot Water with my feet!

I’d swear Scott Adams works in Fangorn.

Somebody with some skill could make a t-shirt with a Hillary-as-Guevera one-color drawing with “Viva She!” on it.

We’re all lucky if we’re still breathing when you get right down to it.

Good morning everyone!

Lord knows I don't deserve to be.

The gal on the left is named Kim Littlejohn, both she and Salli are of Cherokee descent.

Cool! According to my older siblings, my Daddy was of Cherokee descent, so I am, too!

So I have two long gaps in my story, one of about four years, one of 14 years. Not sure yet how to handle them.

Meanwhile...

Heh, well, I’m thinking one abrupt “4 years later” transition, and one gradual “How 14 years passed” transition. I just need more plot for the middle part. Otherwise I’ve got about two days’ worth of events in the middle. So my story would be more gap than story.

Neat. I’m of Choctaw descent. It’s important to the story because I’m going to deal with themes of being connected to your history which is too often a case of extremes. Some people ignore it entirely and have no sense of rootedness (I made that word up). Others drown in it, refusing to allow themselves to grow past the sins and injustices of the past. The characters, because they are college youts, are in the first group. They could care less. But the events of the story force them to find a middle path - to draw strength and inspiration from their warrior heritages to overcome incredible challenges in the here-and-now.

she needs to be convinced that someone has stolen her child and she has to retrieve it.

It's wierd, but my Mama was convinced that with her pregnancy with my just older brother, she was expecting twins, because she got SO big. That wasn't typical with her (he was her 5th child, so she'd had some experience in this). Of course, in 1950, they didn't have sonograms, and the docs usually didn't let you listen to the heartbeat, etc, so folks sometimes were just surprised.

When she woke up from her 'twilight' anaesthesia, and the Doc congratulated her on her son, she immediately asked, "what was the other one?" She said the Doc just laughed and said, "there was only one", but she was never convinced of that. She always thought that the doctor just took one of them, since my Mama already had four others and didn't 'need' twins, and gave the baby to someone else.

My sister even began to wonder about it when she was a police officer in a town on the Coast and was called to a minor fender bender. She saw the driver of one of the cars, and called out that brother's name, thinking it was him. It was someone else, but when she checked his driver's license, she saw that his birthday was the same day, same year. One of those things that makes you go, hmmmm...

Not so early as to require life support machines though because she needs to be convinced that someone has stolen her child and she has to retrieve it.

You stole that plot from Knot's Landing...

From what?

And were there evil magical people who really were trying to steal the baby to use in a dark magical ritual that would leave our world open to their conquest?

Wow, that’s kind of creepy.

Talon, love, just in case you thought there was any question, you *are* going to be in the delivery room whenever we have kids. Just in case.

Donna Mills, a.k.a. "Abby Ewing" from Knot's Landing.

Looks purty "magical" to me...
