The Hobbit Hole XXXIV - But better than rain or rippling streams...

Posted on 08/07/2007 7:52:15 AM PDT by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Sing hey! for the bath at close of day
That washes the weary mud away!
A loon is he that will not sing:
O! Water Hot is anoble thing!

O! Sweet is the sound of falling rain.
and the brook that leaps from hill to plain;
but better than rain or rippling streams
is Water Hot that smokes and steams.

O! Water cold we may pour at need
down a thirsty throat and be glad indeed;
but better is Beer, if drink we lack,
and Water Hot poured down the back.

O! Water is fair that leaps on high
in a fountain white beneath the sky;
but never did fountain sound so sweet
as splashing Hot Water with my feet!

No. But there’s a story passed down in our family that Grandmother fixed spam for Christmas dinner back in ‘46 because an ice storm took out the power and she couldn’t cook her planned menu.

Heh, I'm a slacker. I've only been out on the scaffold since 3pm painting the north gable wall of the house. ;o) I'm working on the areas around and below the lower windows right now. Got the front part done yesterday, the middle today, and will do the rear section tomorrow. Then I get to raise the scaffold even higher to do the area between the upper and lower windows. We had a friend who owns a painting company have his guys do the upper part of the gable wall last year.

It's hard work, though. We have western red cedar siding with the rough side out and you really have to work hard to get complete coverage into the texture of the siding.

Now there's woman who knows how to be flexible!

Heh... My dad’s Dona probably has most of her shopping done ;~)

If I know Dona she had all of her shopping done in June. Maybe March.

There's probably presents for people in her closet that they won't get for a couple of years because there's other presents ahead of that in line.

Evenin’. Don’t you have a friend with tmobile?

Several years ago I had a friend with tmobile... but I lost touch some time ago. He was the one in charge of the original deployment of tmobile wifi nationwide. Real serious heavy-hitter, that guy. And fun to get drunk with, too.

But my problems are with the system in place here at Le Hotel. The DNS server is crapola. Connectivity is good but name services balk. Drivin’ me nuts.

It sounds like understanding the problem doesn’t make it any less frustrating to endure ;~)

Heh...this is sad: I decided to clear off whatever pictures I had on the camera, since I couldn’t remember what I even had.

The only picture I took the entire time I was home was one of the dog.

I’m such a dummy.

Curiously enough, I seem to have made some kind of breakthrough. I need to retrace what all I did and see if I can make it happen again. I tried bypassing the default name servers. Seems to be working like a charm.

Well... it wasn’t my playing around with nameservers that did anything. But something has kicked loose at tmobile, most definitely. I’ve almost been online for an hour without being kicked off. :-)

Dang, I hope this hangs through the rest of the week. Whatever it is.

Heh, the only reason I'm painting rather than working on the kitchen is because that HAS to be done while the weather is still warm enough. That won't be a problem tomorrow; it's gonna be in the upper 80's again. But it's supposed to start raining Friday morning, so I'm trying to get as much done as possible before then. While it's raining for the next few days, I'll be finishing up pitching and packing in the basement, then stripping cabinet doors to get them ready to paint.

We're gonna hold off doing much work on the kitchen until we finish the outside work, and we need to get that done before the snow flies! ;o) We've got a LOT of work to do!
