The Hobbit Hole XXXIV - But better than rain or rippling streams...
Posted on 08/07/2007 7:52:15 AM PDT by HairOfTheDog
Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
Sing hey! for the bath at close of day
That washes the weary mud away!
A loon is he that will not sing:
O! Water Hot is anoble thing!
O! Sweet is the sound of falling rain.
and the brook that leaps from hill to plain;
but better than rain or rippling streams
is Water Hot that smokes and steams.
O! Water cold we may pour at need
down a thirsty throat and be glad indeed;
but better is Beer, if drink we lack,
and Water Hot poured down the back.
O! Water is fair that leaps on high
in a fountain white beneath the sky;
but never did fountain sound so sweet
as splashing Hot Water with my feet!

It gets worse...he finds out Daddy was in the Klan...

Guess he’s not running for office... unless he’s a democrat.

The MC is not the type to run for office. Daddy might have been, but I haven’t quite figured him out yet.
To: Corin Stormhands
He must be a pretty good thread-assassin, though.

After almost 6 hours, it’s rather frightening that we were only 3 seconds apart.

Good thread kill. Here's a dose for good measure:

A nano-prep/Rugby World Cup update: South Africa wiped the floor with England: 36-0. The pic is from USA vs. England. They beat us, but not as spectacularly as people were expecting. The upside down guy is named Olly. Olly Barkley. Barkley!!

You were looking in the pilantir again...weren’t you?
You always have to look.

Heh... I'm getting the glimmer of a NaNo plot...

So I'm working on an opening scene. As you may recall, there must be a naked person in my opening scene. This is hard to do when the opening scene consists of the hero saving the half-brother of the long-lost heroine.
Could it be they're in a sauna? Gentlemen, how can I stage an attempted murder in a sauna?
Or should I change venues?
To: Bear_in_RoseBear; Corin Stormhands; TalonDJ; Lil'freeper; Overtaxed; JenB; RosieCotton
Or I could have the hero rescue the heroine's half-brother from a "picture-perfect frame" consisting of a dead hooker, a lot of illegal drugs, and a knife full of blood and fingerprints ...
To: Rose in RoseBear
Fortunately at thegym the sauna is coed so suits are required. Although that hasn't stopped people from boinking in the hot tub.
I suppose if you must have them naked, you could have someone strangled with a towel...
But...eeeewww...just eeeewww...
On the other hand, you could make it a steam room and have someone block the door from opening and then crank up the steam really, really, really hot.
Or you could push someone over the hot coals in the sauna...or have them throw water on the hot coals and be electrocuted.
I'd better stop there.
To: Corin Stormhands
Hmmm ... someone tried to kill the half-brother by knocking him out and leaving him to cook in the sauna, but the hero came to the rescue?

Fortunately at thegym the sauna is coed so suits are required.At the YMCA to which we belonged, the men's and women's bathrooms each had their own sauna and steam rooms. The women still wore their suits in them, at least at the times I was there.

This is
not the subject for the Saturday night gun pron, but just a quick first impression of the FN FiveseveN:

First, the weapon has good ergonomics, but feels cheap. It makes the Glock look like a handmade work of art. It's amazingly light in weight, but since it fires a round with almost no recoil, which is good, because the checkering is extremely sharp.
My biggest problem will be getting used to operating a manual safety again. With all the years I've used Glocks, I got used to the concept of "put your finger inside the trigger guard, and the gun goes 'boom'".
Still, with the safety activated by your index finger, I also have to remember not to flip off the safety with my thumb, which is how most other pistols work.
I also have to remember to order some +10 extended magazine bases. 20 rounds are nice, 30 rounds are nicer.

This is hard to do when the opening scene consists of the hero saving the half-brother of the long-lost heroine. Agree that sounds difficult. Seems like a nekkid scene is wasted if there aren't any gals around. There's always the locker room - maybe they can be on a team together. (Rugby anyone?? hehehe)
The last trip down to a Red Sox game, Big'ol made a new playlist on his iPod of baseball songs. One of them is a cute cover of "Love that Dirty Water" and in between the verses, the Sox players from the championship year reminisce about things that made them laugh that season. One of them talks about walking into the locker room and "there's Johnny Damon doing naked pull-ups!" Johnny Damon doing naked pull-ups! OMG!!!!

Tis especially funny since he's a Yankee now and clearly going to day spas with Derek Jeeetah. Seriously, when the camera does a closeup, you can see that "healthy glow" from exfoliation. Dermabrasion maybe. I bet they get their nails done, too.
