Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
Sing hey! for the bath at close of day
That washes the weary mud away!
A loon is he that will not sing:
O! Water Hot is anoble thing!
O! Sweet is the sound of falling rain.
and the brook that leaps from hill to plain;
but better than rain or rippling streams
is Water Hot that smokes and steams.
O! Water cold we may pour at need
down a thirsty throat and be glad indeed;
but better is Beer, if drink we lack,
and Water Hot poured down the back.
O! Water is fair that leaps on high
in a fountain white beneath the sky;
but never did fountain sound so sweet
as splashing Hot Water with my feet!
Hope you’re feeling better today, sorry you missed your moot.
Good morning has come too early. Late night last night with the fair and the Weird Al concert.
Good morning!
The boys have dental cleanings this afternoon...I’m really happy we have the coverage!
Coverage is good.
I just thought the look on this goat's face while she was being milked was amusing... like "Hey... Do you have to watch?"
Tired pigmy goats...
And I didn't realize some people bring their women to show at the fair...
One or two of the grange displays. I love the grange displays :~)
Big pumpkin :~)
At the Weird Al concert... These ladies are doooooods. There's a whole row of them. I only could get these two with the camera without embarrassing ecurbh. Check out the look on the guy behind them. ;~)
Weird Al...
The fair was ~OK~ this year, but we were disappointed in a few things, the food was expensive and not very good. We tried three different meals, a bratworst, a bbq sandwich, and a cheeseburger... all were pretty bad :~) It was a little too early in the week for many of the animals to be there. No horses there yet, except for the drafts, the 4H kids aren't there yet, there were goats and dairy cows there being shown, and lots of arts and crafts displays, we never did find the bunnies, if they were there yet.
Enjoyed watching the draft horse demonstration though... Pictures on the Saddle Club thread
Since I'm better rested, I can do the driving! Hope she'll have some free time between now and Sunday!
So, how was Wierd Al? We were watching CSI Miami the other night, and they played the song "Riding Dirty". I immediately recognized it, but only as Wierd Al's "White and Nerdy". What a hilarious video, especially with Donnie Osmond grooving in the background! Al is a goof, but I swear he is a genius when it comes to parody!
What a hoot with the concertgoers! Dude looks like a lady!
He puts on a great show, he’s a great showman, and his band is really talented to play all the styles they play, and change gears quickly!
It’s the second time I’ve seen him, we saw him two years ago at the same fair.
Glad you’re feeling better.
Yeah - she did qualify for state with Charlie, and she’ll be showing his fleece too. They weren’t there yet yesterday, but I know they’ll be there by the weekend.
Hey LF,
You mentioned using a story writing tool recently... which one was it? Do you have a link to them? I am trying to figure out, yet again, what sort of software would help someone like me plot stories and am starting to think of writing my own but I want to see what’s out there.
More generically to NaNo-ers: what sort of plotting do you do and how do you organize it? Because if I did ever come up with some cool tool you’d be welcome to use it.
I learned that there's lots of stuff out there, just nothing that is absolutely perfect for me. I found one (and didn't make a note which one...grrr...) that organizes the notecards along a timeline (which is something that Scrivener doesn't do), but it was for Windows only and I didn't feel like working on that side of my disc. Another one that really appeals is Jer's Novel Writer because of the margin notes (again, not in Scrivener). *sigh* If'n I had the skills like the Scrivener author does, I'd write my own software exactly the way I want it... just like the Scrivener author did.
I think my "style" of plotting (as if I'm accomplished enough to have a style) is more in line with the notecard method(s) and that's why I gravitated toward notecard software. I get a general sense of the plot and work out key plot events. Then I build on those with research and scenes and interesting themes and twists - so a way to link snippets with URLs, PDFs, pics (maps), etc to a scene was very important. I keep .ppt files full of different lines of research and character stuff. It's all very non-linear and just gets overwhelming once the plot starts to get built up and complicated. Scrivener's strengths in this regard are that it 1) keeps everything together in one file and 2) it allows you to insert searchable keywords and notes and research items into each "card". Moving the cards around automatically moves the text which saves the copy-cut-and scroll scroll scroll scroll -paste editing headache.
Oh and color coding. Before I used to color the text of my paragraphs according to which plot thread it was following... and the software allows you to color code the note cards instead. I like to color.
Ungh, can you tell I’m annoyed with the fact that my day isn’t over yet?
Nice looking specimen. :-)
That's funny. Even funnier would be to quietly sneak up and stick a blue ribbon on her, with some judge's comments.
Heh... that would have been funny! :~D
Hmmm... that is... not dissimilar to how I plot, which when I sat down to think about it, is at the “events” level, with events having characters and settings and building into scenes. I might have to write some software for my own use...
Thanks! So am I. I finally figured out what brought on the problem. We've been working on the kitchen for the last couple of weeks, with SirKit knocking down walls, sawing away, and putting up new headers, etc. I hadn't had any problems with it at all, but that was because we had the Central A/C running the whole time. This last week had been so pleasant, we'd turned off the A/C, and just opened the windows for fresh air. Unfortunately, that meant that all the dust that had been going into the A/C system and into the filter, was being caught by my lungs! So we'll keep the A/C going as much as possible in the future, until it gets too cold for that. Either way, I'm going to wear a mask from now on when he's working in the kitchen! ;o)
That’s exciting for Jesse!! Hope she does well!
You could 'beta test' it on the NaNo writers, then sell it to writers everywhere!
Heh, well, there’s plenty of software like that out there but I’d at least make it available on SourceForge, if I didn’t think it had commercial potential :)
I still haven’t seen something I like so I might do this.
