FreeRepublic Saddle Club thread! - Thread 12

Posted on 08/07/2007 7:33:14 AM PDT by HairOfTheDog

The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - (very out of date) Who's Who *pics*

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share, usually about our horses, sometimes about our dogs, gardens and other stuff we do. :~)

I have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will ping everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends.

We’re supposed to get snow tomorrow into Monday. I can’t wait for spring to arrive.

Yeah - me either. It’s almost coming.

Bay’s actually starting to shed already.

It’s suppose to warm up here today, right now tho, it’s overcast and dreary.

Well, so far, that’s all we’ve got too. Overcast and dreary.

What are you up to today? Have you still got company in town?

Jenny’s going to be here shortly and we are going to go run some errands, bank, Walmart..

I’ve just been getting the house back in order a little at a time. The company has all left. The night was bit long, and quiet, but not to bad.

Becky

Okay - well, I'm not sure what we're going to do. So far, we don't seem to be chomping at the bit to do anything.

Well, I take that back. I think we’re going to see if we can get a stick fire going before the snow comes. It’s at least a ~warm~ thing to do... if we can even get it going, that is.

A lot of women like to hold onto their homes, after the lost of the husband. The upkeep can be so overwhelming and I think you have made a wise decision. If not for the kids living here, I would have sold my home. Even though living in an apartment/condo would probably drive me nuts.

Good luck with your future plans.

Very, very cold here too. The wood pile is getting smaller, as I have had the woodburner going a lot. It is suppose to warm up to the 40’s on Sunday and rain. Hopefully, the single digit temps are over.

We got lots of wood here... we’re going to burn it just to get rid of it! I wish we had a fireplace.

It’s dreary here today, too. Supposed to be a nice afternoon, though. In the 60’s. 70’s tomorrow.

Well, got a good stick pile burned in the back forty... there's so many downed branches back there we could have one of these stick fires every 20 feet or so ;~), which we intend to do. We started at the old fire ring in the witches circle...

Find the beagle in the fallen leaves contest :~)

Find the beagle in the campfire contest :~)

Homer telling ecurbh some kind of sad story...

Gidget warms up by the fire...

And it was just about burnt up when the snow started falling. :~) Not sure how much snow we're going to get... we'll see :~)

Maybe this was the dog joke Homer was telling Ecurbh. I heard it yesterday. Remember this is south Texas.

3 male dogs (a lab, a pit and a chihuahua) were trying to win the affection of a fancy poodle. She told them that her favorite treats were liver and cheese and that she would choose the one that could court her the best

The lab went first. He told her he would bring her liver and cheese treats with flowers. She said "not bad" and turned to the pit

The pit told her he would bring her heart boxes full of liver and cheese bars

She really liked that. Then they all looked at the chihuahua. The big dogs even snickered.

Suddenly the little dog went after them. He attacked both the lab and the pit, biting and growling. They both backed off and the lab asked "what is wrong with you? The chihuahua growled again as the backed up some more and said "liver alone. cheese mine"

Looks like y’all had a productive day. I didn’t do a whole lot here, at least not outside. It was cold and cloudy so decided I was finally going to get my house plan drawn up and printed out on the new computer. I had it all ready on the old one, but it was so old that it didn’t have any USB ports so I didn’t have any way to move it. Plus I had software release issues so I just redrew it. Kind of a pain, but at least it’s done and I’ve got a printout now with all the dimensions on it that I can take to a designer to get some real blueprints made

After I got through with that I headed down to the barn to help Lee put out another roll of hay for the horses and another for the cows. I can put out horse hay by myself with no problem, but putting out cow hay is a whold nother matter. Somebody's gotta open the gate for the tractor, and then it's just like a mob scene. You just have to keep driving and shoving them out of the way with the roll until you get it to the ring and can dump it in. If you weren't on a tractor they'd trample you to death.

So now I'm fixing to settle down with a warm bowl of soup coz I'm about froze to death. Seeya!

Evening everyone.

Went to the barn and rode today. Then went up to The New Place to move a bunch of horses and get everyone settled. There was a minimum amount of fuss- some of the boys were acting like studs, but the mares could have cared less. The geldings were turned out, and by the time that we got a couple of the mares up there, they just got turned in their stalls for the night with some hay. Could have cared less. We have six more to move tomorrow. Did a lot of heavy labor- I feel like I've been hit by a truck. It hurts my arms to even type.
