FreeRepublic Saddle Club thread! - Thread 12

Posted on 08/07/2007 7:33:14 AM PDT by HairOfTheDog

The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - (very out of date) Who's Who *pics*

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share, usually about our horses, sometimes about our dogs, gardens and other stuff we do. :~)

I have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will ping everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends.

Thinking about you today. Wishing I was there to help. Do you still have a houseful?

I don’t know what it feels like for you this morning, but I hope the day is a wonderful gathering of all the people who cared about Mack, who have come to say they care.

I want to hear what you have planned, and your reflections on it when it’s over. I think the gathering at the building after the service will be very appropriate. I hope they play pool. I wish I could be there.

You’re right, Bay does look good. I’m glad he’s feeling better!

The kids have still been staying here with me, so yes the house has been full. I told them tho, that they can go home anytime, but I'm booting them out on Fri:). They have to go home and sleep in their own beds, it's time.

Our plans for the day are a short memorial service at the funereal home chapel, then too the building. I told the guy who is speaking, a friend of ours who sometimes preaches in churches, to keep it at 20-30 minutes tops...don't drag it out. I printed out 3 of the posts from here that spoke so well of Mack, and gave him a list of the jobs and hobbies that Mack did over his life...it was a lot, and said I'd leave any spiritual talking up to his discretion. We choose just to have some piped in music while everyone is being seated, and as we go out. The casket will not be opened. Charlie and Travis will go with him to the cemetary because the funeral director asked that some one came to verify Mack was brought there.

I guess it may seem a rather stark service to some, but this is what both Mack and I always said we wanted.

Becky

I think the most important thing is that it’s the right amount of the right tribute. We had a huge fanfare and almost a party atmosphere at my mom’s service. Live musicians that she loved, jazz, a soloist, it was truly a party she would have loved to have been at. It was perfect for her.

But I can’t imagine that would make sense for me. I’m not that type. I guess I’d rather people just went on a trail ride in my honor and put me in the creek.

In other words, it should fit the people. And I think yours sounds like it will. It’s for you, and Mack, and the kids. I hope it’s a day of recalling many good memories, and getting reconnected perhaps, with other people who knew Mack. For a long time, I hung on to all the people who had surrounded my mom, because it helped to be with people who knew her, they became very special to me, because they knew. It meant that as long as the memories lived, so did part of her. I don’t know if you understand those ramblings, but maybe.

All the best to you today.

I'm with you on not having such a long, drawn out funeral. Family members are already stressed enough without having to go through all of that. I think I just want to be cremated. Then just dump my ashes out in the garden and let me be. I'll be in a much better place anyways, so I don't really care what anybody does with my body. Remember me on horseback, going wide-ass open, with the wind in my hair! :o)

I’ve been thinking about you all day today.

Larry’s service sounds exactly what I would want, too.

I guess everybody’s feeling a little bit more mortal here lately. I’m sad for Becky, but I’m happy for Larry because he’s with God already. So it’s kinda bitter-sweet.

Good evening, ladies.

Becky, I've been thinking of you all day today. I think that a short service is perfect. Families are stressed enough, and I've always felt that a long service is just torture. I'm sorry that there's not more that we can do for you, but it also sounds like you're well taken care of! That is a blessing.

I think that the morning pings are going to turn into evening pings. I have to be out of the house before 7 every morning, and I never have time to sit down in front of the computer to send out a morning ping. Let me know what you think.

Hey, suits me. Most people ought to know how to find the thread anyways since it’s on the home page. It wouldn’t bother me if you didn’t ping at all. But that’s just me.

We know how to find it... eh? :~)

I’ll copy this here too... as an update:

I stopped on the way to the feed store and checked on my chicken. She’s doing very well, she was in the coop with the others for the night. I didn’t go see close, but there’s only one red chicken there so she stood out in the crowd ;~)

I talked to the owner, who hadn’t been there when I dropped her off... only workers. I said “I’m the one who dropped off the red chicken last week” “Oh yeah” “Was she reasonably welcome here? I’ve just been wondering ever since if she was OK here and welcome” he said “Oh sure, she’s been just fine, roaming all over the place, and going back in the coop at night”

So that’s good :~)

I’m home. We had a really really nice service, and a nice time at the office.

The Peace Lilly from you all was beautiful, and the note 2J gave me about the crape myrtle...well that really is too much...but what a very nice thought out gift.

Becky

I’m glad you’re home.

The service was nice. The point was well made in my opinion that Mack looked for truth and found it. I liked that part the most.

I guess everyone finally figured out they were supposed to eat all that food at the office? I tried, I went over and looked at it but couldn’t eat it. My blood pressure’s a bit up and I just felt like coming home and resting.

It was a really nice party, though!

Oh I’m glad it was nice.

We just wanted to get you something pretty to look forward to this spring :~) It’s not too much at all, you have a lot of friends :~)

I’m glad to hear that everybody enjoyed the get-together at the building, and it sounds like the guy who did the service did a very nice job. I’m glad you liked the plant too, and I think the crepe myrtle will be a really nice addition to your yard for years to come.
