This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share, usually about our horses, sometimes about our dogs, gardens and other stuff we do. :~)
I have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will ping everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list.
So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends.

Well, I had a good long talk with Becky when she was home checking on things at the house. I think she just wanted to call and talk instead of trying to type something out.
She’s doing OK... remarkably well, I think. Mack, as it turns out, is not the easiest patient, which isn’t a big surprise to me ;~), being a pretty opinionated and cantankerous Freeper, after all. The procedures and the physical therapy and the needing to poke at him all the time is sometimes a struggle, as are the drugs... She said he’s really not good on any kind of Narcotic and she’s got him off of those now so he can at least have a clear head and be himself again, and EAT. He needs to eat but he’s being difficult about it. Afraid it will make him sick, not really feeling hungry. He ‘copped a feel’ yesterday when she was leaning over him, so she thinks he might be coming around ;~)
She’s hoping still that they can get him well enough so he can come home. They can be prepared to set up the house so he can be in the living room, with his own TV and his own remote, and some familiar and comfortable sights and sounds. They might even be able to get their WebTV going again so he could argue on FR if he wanted. She thinks some normalcy and quiet and ‘home’ will be good for him, and I have to agree, I know it’s what I would want. I worry about her up on that hill in winter, dealing with any emergencies that might happen, but she can get some hospice help, and the kids would actually be closer to them than they are now, having to commute back and forth to the hospital every day.
Well that’s that... she was headed back to the hospital. It sure was good to hear her voice.
Thanks for the update. Mack reminds me of Bob a lot so I’m not surprised that he isn’t Mr Model Patient. Praying he gets home soon, that will make it a little better.
Yeah - Having met him, I’m not surprised at all ;~)
And I don’t blame him. It would make me nuts too. I’d want to be right here, by my window. With my keyboard. And my forums :~)
What would those puppies be called? Labradanes? Great Danelabs? :-)
Personally I need the heels (5'01"), but for her I think they're a bit much. :-)
"IThinkICan" and "IThinkICan". ;~)
lol! Yup, I still got the crud. :-) When I had typed out that good morning the day of the snow storm, that was before they had called work off. So I got to stay in bed instead. We’re supposed to get more snow and sleet on Thursday. I’m not too worried about it because I just got nifty new snow tires on my car. Bring it on, I say! During Monday’s snow storm, we actually did loose power for a good while. Before that, the lights kept blinking and you could hear the electricity buzzing from the weight of the snow on the wires.
Our horses can hear a peppermint candy wrapper a mile and a half away. Levi gets carried away and licks his lips over and over again, then you, then whatever is in his reach. The arm of my jacket is usually soaked in horse slobber by the time we get to the paddock. It’s both disgusting and endearing.
Woah baby! Please tell me that’s just photoshop.
“High hopes, he’s got high hopes, “ Now that song will be stuck in my head.
Thanks Hair, I am glad she called you and was able to vent a little. She is a tough lady, but these kind of situations can bring down the best. Men can be so stubborn at times. Heres hoping and praying he eats and gets better. He needs his nourisment.
Thanks for the update! I don’t blame him for being cantankerous. I’m sure being in the hospital for that long would make me a little bit ill-tempered too. I sure hope they get to bring him home. That’ll improve his spirits more than anything and then maybe he’ll feel like eating, or at least TRYING to eat. I know it’s hard to eat and exercise and all the other things that you NEED to do when you don’t feel good, and it’s hard to convince somebody who’s sick to go ahead and do it anyways, even if it makes them feel temporarily worse. I feel sorry for both of them. So hopefully he’ll feel better real soon!
I am praying they do well. It’s hard on both of them.
So did you ever get around to getting outside yesterday and working some hosses?
I went out and stood in the sun with them. The ground never thawed out. It’s frozen solid. Not real good for footing. I waved Bay off enough that I could see he wasn’t particularly limping, but it’s too slippery to really work him.
Today, as soon as it warms up a little more, it stall cleaning day.
Boy they can really make a mess when it’s yucky outside and all they wanna do is stand inside and eat and poop.
What little snow we did get yesterday afternoon was all gone by this morning. It actually warmed up over night. Go figure!
They’ve been outside more the last few days, because it’s not raining at least... the stalls aren’t too bad, they’ve been able to go several days now... but it’s time.
The footing is a little tricky... the mud froze solid, so it’s now a hard bumpy surface in the paddock. Bay’d have been hurting if he was still barefoot...
We got a tiny bit of snow over night, but it’s sunny now and melting in the sun... the shady bits though, will not likely thaw again, and I’m not really complaining, that’s where the mud is.
You get well fast, Beaker.
Garlic and olive leaf extract will speed your recovery! Prayers up, on your behalf.
