This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share, usually about our horses, sometimes about our dogs, gardens and other stuff we do. :~)
I have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will ping everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list.
So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends.

New folk and occasional posters, jump right in and introduce yourselves, tell us about your horses, and post pictures if you've got them!
Good morning... still no word from Becky, unfortunately. I’ll try to call her again today, and will let you all know when I hear from her.
You have FRemail!
I got good news about BigMack!!!
Yesterday in my desperation for some news, I happened to think about the lady at the Bixby Bulletin who interviewed us when we were all out there visiting Becky, and since her office was right next to Becky’s daughter Jenny’s shop I thought she might know something. So I dug back through the thread and found the link to the article, which also had a “contact us” link to the lady who did the article. So I e-mailed her, explaining who I was and why I was writing, and told her that any information she could give me would be greatly appreciated by a lot of people.
I didn’t know if whe would respond or not, but when I got in to the office this morning I had a reply from her. I won’t post her whole reply here, but she basically said that the surgery went well and that he was actually able to eat yesterday. He had a liquid diet at first but was supposed to get to have some mashed potatoes by the afternoon and was apparently feeling enough to tell Jenny that when he gets well he was going to eat all he wanted. She said that Becky had been at the hospital most of the time, leaving only to take showers and naps once in a while, and that she looked tired, but cheerful. So that’s good to hear too. I know this has really been hard on her.
So anyways, I just thought I’d share that with y’all. I know that it took a massive load off of MY mind. I wrote the lady back and thanked her profusely and told her that she had just made a whole lot of people very happy. I know that Becky’s had her hands full and her mind on more important things than fooling with us, so I was just glad that we had other resources to turn to for information.
:’)
Pinging 2J to some good news...
2 of my favorite videos. I had to watch again when I should be getting to work.
Good news! I am so glad to hear that.
What wonderful news :) I’ll continue to pray until he’s home and well but this is a great way to start the day.
Becky, we’re all praying and thinking of you and Mack.
So what’s the latest word on Lori? Is she still doing ok?
Thanks for the info, Frog. It was very good to hear that the surgery went well.
Regarding Lori - well, she needs a miracle. Her mother said last week that she will never come home. They can’t find the hole in her bowel for one thing. Anyway, her parents have made arrangements to sell all her horses, take her dogs to a shelter and sell her home as soon as she loses conciousness. I’ve been desperately praying for a miracle for her. She is so determined and has fought for so long against all odds and deperately wants to live.
She was born without a bladder and lost one kidney when she was 18yrs old. Her other kidney failed 5-6 years ago and she has been on dialysis. She has a dialysis machine at home and her sister helped her with it. She rode endurance until two years ago and has worked everyday as a vet nurse and lab technician until she got called for the kidney transplant. Anyway, I just keep hoping a miracle will happen and she can ride 50 again.
That is so sad that someone her age with such a will to live is having to go through all this. I’ll keep her in my prayers too!
Oh, and in other news, I finally did get the cut on Goose’s leg cleaned up. Lee got home from work earlier than he usually does so I got him to come down there with me in case I needed help with a twitch, but it turned out that I didn’t need him.
But we did almost have a huge wreck when I got Goose in the cross-ties and turned the hose on and there was air in the line and it took off hissing and spitting like it was going to explode. And poor ol’ Goose didn’t know WHAT was going on so he ran forward in the ties, which of course only lifted his front end off the ground. Then he sat down backwards, got up and then twisted around so that the cross ties were across his nose. I swear I thought he was going to hang himself, but I managed to pull the panic snaps and got him down before anything else bad happened. So after I got him calmed down and hooked back up I was a little more prepared when I turned the hose on the next time. It still hissed and spit, but I was ready for it with a hand on his shoulder and some calming words and he took it a lot better that time. He still didn’t like the water hitting his leg, but he didn’t do much more than keep picking his foot up and shaking it.
So after I’d sprayed it a while and got most of the dirt off, I got out the bucket of hot epsom salt and betadine water that I’d mixed up and started sponging it off with that, being careful to not rub too hard, and after the crusties were softened up I managed to get them picked off and could actually see the cut itself. It was about 4 inches long and about as wide as my finger, but thankfully was confined just to the pastern area and didn’t extend down into the coronary band.
I mananged to get it looking pretty clean and then I decided that since he’d been so good so far that I’d take my chances and clip the hair off of it, since I got a nice little set of quiet cordless clippers for Christmas. And he did real good. He didn’t even try to pull his foot away from me, much less make me have to use the twitch on him. So I was really glad to get that done. And it really does look a lot better with all that crud off of there, so I put some antibiotic ointment on it with a gauze pad and some vet-wrap and turned him out. And the bandage was still on there this morning, so that kind of amazed me. :o)
Ah good. Glad the wreck at the cross ties ended well! Yikes! Scary times.
I’m just sitting here wasting my life away today. Don’t feel like doing anything! It’s not raining, which is good, but it’s cold, and it feels it’s going to be raining again soon, so I don’t feel like going out. Just looked out and the mares are playing and carrying on out in the pasture. Glad someone’s feeling frisky today!
We’ve been having some unseasonably warm weather here lately and even had some storms and tornado watches after we got home last night. Very strange for January. It cooled down some after that front came through, but it’s still in the 50’s today and I think it’s supposed to be stormy again tomorrow. I don’t like storms! Saturday’s supposed to be ok again, but they were giving a chance of snow on Sunday. We don’t GET snow! It’s just strange!
They had tornado watches in Missouri yesterday! Is this the same system?
I don’t like storms either. I’d like to see your snow :~)
We’ve had really warm weather the past two days too. It’s been in the 60s. I don’t think that it’s supposed to get below 50 for the rest of the week either. It’s going to be a real shock once the weather returns to normal.
Well, I was just glad that the idea finally bubbled to the top. I was a little bit hesitant to go that route, but I knew that Becky and that lady were friends and that the newspaper offices were in Becky and Mack’s building, so I figured that it would be ok.
