FreeRepublic Saddle Club thread! - Thread 12

Posted on 08/07/2007 7:33:14 AM PDT by HairOfTheDog

The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - (very out of date) Who's Who *pics*

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share, usually about our horses, sometimes about our dogs, gardens and other stuff we do. :~)

I have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will ping everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends.

I came home today with a migraine.

I've decided to get another dog (yeah I know...be careful with nevers:'). What do yall think fits my personality? I'm leaning towards another big dog but those Boston Terriors and chichi dogs are cute too. I could carry it just about anywhere if I could teach it to shhhh.

Well, I’m not sure what will fit you... More often than not, dogs find you, not the other way around- just ask Hair. ;-) I’m partial to labs and other big dogs. I’ve always wanted a Newf or a Great Dane. However, cocker spaniels can be great little dogs if you raise them right. I had one for 17 years. Best dog I ever had. Mini dachshunds are nice small dogs too. They're brave and they don't have the yip. I'd go to the pound and let one pick you out. :-D

Well, I loved my Doberman. Smart, easy to train, very obedient and loving, a couch potato :)

I love my Queensland, smartest dog I have ever seen, I spent one day only teaching her to come, sit, stay and heel. They generally only obey one person though.

The min pins are 10 lbs of pure love, although not very smart. Heart of 120lb dog :)

I’ve thought about buying a miniture pony. I don’t think my neighbors would know the difference. Think I could teach one to sit and fetch? :’)

My sister does vol work with rescuing Boston Terriers. She can get me one, if I want it. They are cute. I filled out papers once but pulled my application. I think it’s easier to adopt a kid.

Well I’m going to San Diego the end of the month. I’ll look around after I get back.

I like Boston Terriers too. My husband’s family had one before we married. She was lots of fun, but hell on cats. Not too long ago I saw a little part Boston that was the cutest little thing you ever saw. She was black & white and had the screw-tail but didn’t have quite the flat face that full-blooded ones have. Very cute!

I’ve got to admit that Dobermans are wonderful. I do think the Boston Terriers are darling dogs. I just go for dogs that go for the throat so to speak. :)

LOL :-) Dobies are definitely loyal and are great guard dogs. My parents always tell me about Storm, a doberman that we had when I was a baby, who made it his duty to guard me. :-)

My screen name, Duchess, was the name of my Dobie. I spent 10 years with a big red Dobie watching over my every move. They are funny, they rarely growl, they just look at people and the people go away. :)

Go ahead, make my day :) Her look at strangers.

At the library for a dog show and meeting the kids. A friend's son showed her.

Hiking with me and her buddy, Bear - a german German Shephard

The above is probably a video you've seen, (you'll probably have to copy and paste) but at the end of that the last time I looked, there was a link to a video of a horse who had been trained to do lots of things, like open the fridge, etc. Of course, some of the things he had been trained to do were HIGHLY questionable.

To all, I've been lurking and reading just not posting.

I love that video. Gives me chills every time I watch it. And the other one about Patches the trick horse is SO cute. It’s so funny the way he just climbs in that old car and sits down in the back seat like he owns it.

Have you had any promising leads on getting a new horse yet?

Yeah Duchess, I’d say that’s a pretty good “Make My Day” look. I wouldn’t mess with you when she was around.
