FreeRepublic Saddle Club thread! - Thread 12

Posted on 08/07/2007 7:33:14 AM PDT by HairOfTheDog

The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - (very out of date) Who's Who *pics*

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share, usually about our horses, sometimes about our dogs, gardens and other stuff we do. :~)

I have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will ping everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends.

Here is my Christmas Tree this year.

At first, I wasn't going to put one up because we are leaving on the 26th for a week. But, last week while grocery shopping at Kroger, I noticed that they had deeply discounted the trees. I paid the grand sum of 99 cents for this fine, 3ft noble fir. I have to take it down tonight so thought I'd snap a photo before I destroyed it. This is the smallest tree I have EVER put up in my entire life. It didn't take long to decorate, and won't take long to undecorate either. Hope everyone is having a wonderful Christmas!

You tree is very cute! Is it live? He may just live to serve again! Put him in a pot!

We're back from the beach house... Wonderful Christmas but we left early because snow is falling here and wanted to get out ahead of the bad roads. A White Christmas :~)

Yes, it is a live tree! That is the only kind I will ever have. Yes, I am one of THOSE people who insist on live-only.

It has been a long time since I had a white Christmas. Snow just doesn’t happen often in north Texas. Now, west Texas gets a lot and I have had white Christmases when I used to live north of Amarillo. But, around Dallas, snow rarely happens.

I did experience tropical Christmases when living in the Philippines. We put lights on the palm and banana trees out in the front yard!

We had a nice Christmas. Good food, and I got the Clinton Anderson book on Establishing Respect and Control, and a new Carhart coat.

The weather was good enough that we could go outside with the kids some. Today I think it is suppose to get cold and nasty again.

We still have some slushy snow left this morning and I think stall cleaning and perhaps house cleaning is on my agenda...

We got many nice things, a carpet shampooer among them... I may figure out how it works and clean our carpets!

Ramius bought me this :~D

At Cabella’s :~) It’s not a real old sign... it’s just made to look old. He said he couldn’t ~not~ buy it :~)

Yeah, that’s just one of those things that reaches out and grabs you and screams “BUY ME!”

Well, I’m gonna get off my butt and get a move on. I’m planning on moving Whirl and Goose over to the other pasture today. At 20 months old, it’s high time they were weaned!

I plan on putting them in the little dry lot with Tennessee at first and see how everybody does, then I’ll go from there. And of course, pictures will be taken of the whole process.

Oh, sorry 'bout running off like that.

It went well. Ellie did real well, like I knew she would, and the girl kept her. Of course she's still got a couple of weeks to make her final decision, but I think she'll keep her. Carla and Derek seemed like nice people who'll take good care of Ellie. So while I'm here I'll post a few pics of the trip...

Ellie giving me a big snotty smooch as we waited for Carla to meet us in town and lead us to their place...

My last ride on her as I gave her a test ride for them...

Carla gives her a test ride with her own tack, with her husband Derek (in the red plaid shirt) and her FIL (with the beer) there to watch...

And they also had their farrier there. I think he was an uncle or something. I don't know what he was looking at in this pic. Maybe he thought there was something wrong with that foot because she was cocking it, but he was satisfied when her heard her rack down the pavement. He said "A man don't need no eyes when he can hear that sound. That says it all." :o)

Carla and Ellie...

And she and Ellie head off into the (cloud-covered) sunset on their first short trailride together...

Ah well that all looks real good! I hope you felt good about it driving away... even if it’s a little sad to say goodbye.

Good Evening everyone! Hope y’all had a very merry Christmas! Not much to report on this end. Right now I’m sitting with a laptop in front of the TV. Had to bring some work home with me... I just didn’t feel like staying there to do it.

Good morning...

Hair nice gifts...I love the sign:)

Ellie looks like she did great, and I’m not surprised by that, as well as she did here.

We’ve been very busy around here. The weather is suppose to be cold again for the next few days...some snow fell yesterday, but nothing stuck.

Everyone have a great day.

Becky

Good Morning everyone!

I hope that everyone is well, and not suffering too much from post-Christmas hangover coupled with the rush of the New Year. My company operates on a calender year rather than the fiscal year, so we're rushing around like mad. I also have a ton of family obligations... I just want to hide under the bed until it's over! :-D In brighter news, I think that the snow has melted enough, (as well the weather being warm enough) for me to head to the barn today, even if it is just for a visit to cuddle a horse or two.

Good morning.

Light snow here last night but very cold - it’s been miserable for days :( I hate winter.

Hair, that is a cool sign. Where are you going to put it?

Frog, congratulations on the sale. It looks like everyone is happy.

I’m off today since I’m scheduled to work tomorrow, then off for three days. My mission today is to pack up my office, including all the bookcases so my son and I can do the floor in here. Just can’t get the energy to get started.

Hi there... a little snow is fun in winter isn’t it? Better than rain!

Ouch! I’d much prefer rain than snow. Driving in the rain is no big problem, snow is. Rain comes and goes. Snow comes and stays. Besides, rain is warmer.

The only time snow is fun is when it’s in the mountains and I’m in the valley.
