This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share, usually about our horses, sometimes about our dogs, gardens and other stuff we do. :~)
I have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will ping everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list.
So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends.

New folk and occasional posters, jump right in and introduce yourselves, tell us about your horses, and post pictures if you've got them!
Yeah - Randy’s the NB farrier. There isn’t much more over in the HH... that’s pretty much it.
That was funny about him pulling out the skeleton leg. I’ll bet Bay was thinking “Alas! poor Yorick. I knew him.” ;o)
ROTFL... that’s about it. :~)
Well I called and talked to Becky... they are without power, and the place is a mess of broken branches, but they’re OK, and they can stay warm, they have propane heat.
Rocky got out and made mischief chasing Harley around, since the hotwire’s all down and branches on it and all. We talked and if he starts to blow through the fake wire she put back up, she’ll have to start moving panels around.
It’s just nasty, the biggest challenge when she went to town was dodging all the trees and branches that are across the road or hanging low over it.
Their power may be out awhile. For now she’s reading Mack a book. I know I have a hard time trying to figure out what to do with myself without internet or TV.
Well I’m glad to hear that they don’t have any damage to the house and the horses didn’t get out any worse than they did with the electric fence out. It’s handy when it works, but you’re kinda SOL when it don’t. Hopefully it won’t be out for TOO long or they’ll go stir-crazy with no TV or internet. But at least they’re getting by with reading a book together. Lee and I couldn’t even do that because he thinks everything I like to read or watch is weird. LOL! I guess it kinda goes with the personality. ;o)
Luckily she still has good perimeter fence between hard wire and panels, but yeah, the divider between Rocky and Harley became useless.
She said they’re saying it may be ten days to get power back to everyone. Hopefully she’s not among the last.
He'd just be like a regular guy, wanting to change the channel every two minutes... you'd have to have about six books he could flip through ;~)
Awwwww, they’re BOTH just cute as bugs. How old were they both in the pictures and how old are they now?
Let me think, that was about 9-10 years ago. My daughter is nearly 19 now and a Freshman at college. George was probably 18-20. (I’m not real sure how old he is but he has to be near 30)
Aren’t they cute!
Good morning :~)
And a good morning to you! How’s Bay?
I’ll be back in a bit. It finally stopped raining so I need to run out and get some feed. I’m finally getting some weight back on George by feeding him tons of hot soaked beet pulp and alfalfa cubes, along with his regular feed. Good thing about beet pulp, you can feed it real close to free choice without it causing laminitis. I put a little alfalfa in there to make it more palatable.
I think Bay’s fine this morning. Didn’t seem ouchy getting around but I was going to go out later and ~really~ look.
I feel for the poor ol’ guy having to eat soaked beet pulp! Back when I first started Tennessee on the Cushings/IR diet I tried to feed that stuff and he hated it. I couldn’t say that I blamed him either because it smelled like wet cardboard and looked about the same. Yuck!
"Did she say she was feeding him beets? Who the heck feeds a horse beets? She doesn't know what she's doing!
I haven’t been able to find anything else that poor George can eat. He can have his equine senior but I can’t feed him enough for him to put on weight without causing a founder flare up. He has no grinding teeth left so he can’t eat hay or pasture. He was getting skinnier and skinnier and I was looking at putting another dang horse down so I had to do something. He can have beet pulp free choice so I give him tons and he’s gaining weight. I did get some wheat bran at the feed store today, per their suggestion, to add to the mix. They said no more than 2 cups a day. Do ya’ll know anything about wheat bran amounts? I don’t want to make him sick.
Oh, George is lapping the stuff up like there’s no tomorrow. Poor guy was starving. I could probably put cat food out there and he would have eaten that, he was so hungry.
If it’s working keep doing it!
Don’t know about the wheat bran. What’s the goal with it?
