This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share, usually about our horses, sometimes about our dogs, gardens and other stuff we do. :~)
I have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will ping everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list.
So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends.

New folk and occasional posters, jump right in and introduce yourselves, tell us about your horses, and post pictures if you've got them!
The thing I most hate about winter is frozen water troughs and frozen hoses.
Ours just has the thinnest layer of ice on it... but the hose is frozen. Luckily they’re still full enough. I guess I need to start with the stuffing the hose under the house routine at night.
I’m with you, I hate frozen hoses, but hate dealing with keeping them from getting frozen.
So far, if I have the foresight to get Rocky’s trough full to the top before a hard freeze that lasts for a while, and get his heater in it, it’s enough to get me through for both horses, so I don’t need the hose.

Stuffing ours under the house works unless we have a really cold snap... if that fails, we’re hauling warm water from the house and that gets old in a hurry.
Our outside emergency water barrels are hard to use too, when it’s really cold. they’ll stay liquid, or near liquid, but as soon as you turn on the tap, it freezes in the tap. Same with the siphon. Like as soon as you ~move~ the water, it freezes.
Have fun at the beach house. I’ll be leaving here around noonish, we’re eating at 1:30. Hopefully traffic won’t be too bad. Just put my pie in the oven, it’s a dutch apple. Tomorrow I’m making a cheesecake for our barn’s annual “Pie Party”. No, it’s not a pie, but all the other pie varieties were already called on for others to make. :-D
I swear SL has appaloosa somewhere in her background - one smart horse :) She’ll enjoy life and not have to work a bit.
Thanks, I’m still asking for a miracle for Lori.
You all have a great Thanksgiving. Ice here this morning too. Kitchen is still ovenless so my neighbor is smoking a turkey and all the rest will be done in my microwave :) Still a wonderful day of thankfulness, good friends, great family, sunshine and even all my critters happy today. And it won’t be long (3wks or so) and the kitchen will be outstanding.
Prayers for Lori....
Janis, I don’t know what’s going on but you hang in there. We are always here for you.
Ramius will be coming down here in a bit to hang out the remainder of the weekend.
I went out and took some pictures this morning but didn't have time to post them before we left. It was a beautiful, if chilly, morning. :~)
Found the horses... WAY out in a sun spot, broadside to the sun like solar panels. Frosty still in the shade.
I liked these two shadow pictures... Pony, having her neck scratched in that spot that makes her lip curl ;~)
And Bay getting a face rub.
Here's Bay's face when I scratch his good spot ;~)
Hope you all had a good Thanksgiving ;~)
Thank you.
Again, great pictures. Had a great thanksgiving here :) Off until Monday. Friday is a legal holiday in Nevada.
Nobody ever complains!
(Happy Birthday, Marse Robert!)
Thanks Becky! I hope you had a good day too!
I worked all day. Left this morning at six and got in at eight this evening.
Steve and the boys had Thanksgiving Dinner on the table waiting!
Praying for Lori.
She had a buyer that wanted him but, ...no. He has his own home now with 3 teens. I liked the way they liked him, if that makes any sense. I expect he will get him more attention than he will know what to do with. I’ll be keeping an eye on him.
Thanks. The shadow pictures are cool.
Yeah. Sad. I guess it’s cold your way. It’s cool here. It made a nice Thanksgiving.
