A miracle happened today.
Very early this morning Lori headed for San Francisco for her kidney transplant. I’ll let everyone know when she gets home. What a wonderful way to start the day :)

How long does she expect to be in S.F.? Is there a course of immunosuppressant drugs first? It's all so complicated.
It is astounding to me how FAST medical science is moving these days.

Good evening everyone! Hope everyone had a good day. The contractors came today, so all of the furniture is stacked around where my computer is. I couldn't get to it at all.
Duchess, that's fantastic news about Lori. I hope that everything turns out ok, and she'll be in my prayers.

Hair, I was thinking about what that vet said about vaccinations and older horses. I would keep regular vaccinations on the older guys, simply because the immune system of an older horse may not be as able to fight off infection. If one wanted to selectively vaccinate, I would vaccinate against any diseases that can be carried by vectors such as mosquito's or ticks- anything that can fly or crawl or walk. (In other words, everything.) :-D Opossums for instance, carry EPM. At a barn that I know, EPM was contracted by two horses, when no knew horses were introduced in any recent time frame. In short, I would consider the epidemiology of your area, or what your horses have the opportunity to be exposed to. If I were boarding at a stable, I would be darn sure to keep vaccinate against strangles, and keep up to date on everything and anything, especially if it's a barn with a high turnover, or one that hosts shows or events.
Just my two cents.

LOL I can so relate. My office with my computer is also home to eight boxes of copper right now and shortly several more boxes of cooking utensils and dishes. It’s a real pain to get to the computer.
Thank you for the prayers for Lori. She has been waiting so long now.

I agree, there’s not a whole lot of reason not to vaccinate, the shots aren’t expensive or risky. I just thought it was interesting.
A vet once told me the need to continue vaccinating adult dogs with a lifetime of immunity also goes down, simply because they have been vaccinated their whole life and are in fact immune a lot longer than a year. I think this vet is saying the same thing.
It’s just grist for the mill ;~)
