This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share, usually about our horses, sometimes about our dogs, gardens and other stuff we do. :~)
I have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will ping everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list.
So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends.

New folk and occasional posters, jump right in and introduce yourselves, tell us about your horses, and post pictures if you've got them!
I bet it is. I hope they get it under control soon.
I was really struck by how warm it was when I got off the plane and went outside in Dallas.
That would be so scary. I would think it would feel like you were going into a fire. Your story reminded me of an article I read somewhere awhile back. A woman had worked with blindfolding her horses for such an emergency. She talked about leading them down a smokey road. She said she had to walk toward people calling her and people told her all they could hear were the horses feet. Don’t remember where I read it but it was a “hero wins” story.:’)
I’ve cleaned the fish tank and done a lot of laundry... worked on my drainage... now for the kitty litter.
In other words... I’ve been pretty productive! What are you up to today? Have you recovered from the last week yet? :~)
Hello:)
You were productive...me on the other hand spent most of the day dozing...I can’t believe I’m still so tired:). This evening we went to Charlie’s to watch the World Series, boring. But it was fun visiting with the girls and playing with the boys.
Becky
Good Morning everyone!
‘Mornin! I thought about you last night when the Sox won. Figured you’d be all cranked up today. If they keep this up, it’ll be a very short Series!
I’m still on Central time... had a hard time staying up past 8 O clock last night!
LOL...my sleep patterns are still in a mess too, and I didn’t even cross time zones:)
Becky
Heh, I always have trouble staying up past 8 o’clock. When it starts getting dark so early it just seems like it’s time to go to bed.
My grandma used to say that’s why they had so many kids in the old days - no electricity, nothing else to do after dark. :~)
Wow, it is sure slow here...are we all just talked out:)?
I’m having trouble getting back to any kind of routine...just been wondering around the house, napping....I was so busy for the last couple of weeks, now I can’t find anything to occupy myself with...too windy and cold to ride right now.
Becky
We might be talked out! It’s cold here too. Not windy, it’s clear and quiet, but it was frosty this morning.
I’m having a really hard time getting started on work today. Or anything.
I think the weather here today would be more what you were expecting the other day when you were here. From inside it looks the same as it did when you were here, and you commented that you expected it the wind to cold. Well, it is today, but the wind is from the north..eeewwwwwwwww...so even tho it looks sunny and warm it’s not.
Becky
Well, give yourself a few days to recover :~) It’s a lot of work hosting people... especially as big a group as you had!
So, have all the pet issues at your house resolved themselves...Barkley having accidents?
I’m having to beat Susie to get her to go out, to cold for her, and Grizzly has taken to standing at the back door wanting in:)...I think you spoiled him!!
Becky
I feared that with Grizzly... he’s a good boy... can’t he come in? :~D
No issues with the pets. With me home he can go in and out whenever he wants, and he likes to be out. I don’t know whether it was abandonment or lack of system endurance or what, with him.
I’m sitting here wondering about what to do with blankets. It’s clear and froze last night, and will freeze again tonight, but it’s rising to about 42 now, and may get as high as 50. They still have the blankets on, and they’re out in the pasture basking broadside to the sun. I’d think if they were hot they wouldn’t do that. They’d come in under the trees, at least.
LOL, your such a softie:)...I imagine when it gets really cold he'll come in, but today is not that bad for a dog, and he has the barn and shop to go into to get out of the wind.
Well, I wouldn't know what to tell you about the blankets...sounds to me tho, that they are comfortable. That's the thing I don't like about blanketing...it's a pain taking them on and off.
Becky
I’ve not been doing much of anything either, other than working. It’s been raining every day so I only stay at the barn long enough to feed, then scoot my butt home. Been working on getting up a ride to the rails-to-trails on Saturday. It’s been raining so much I figured that that was one of the few places that wouldn’t be a muddy mess. Shirley’s up for it and my other riding buddy Kari. Don’t know if her hubby will make it or not. I think they all went on an all-day ride yesterday out in the Forest and wore him out. BladeRider and her hubby will probably come. Gonna ask the Old Farts that live up that way too. Probably ask my friend Elizabeth to come and ride either Hope or Grace. We’ll probably end up with 6 or 8. Should be fun.
On Sunday I’ll probably trim feet all day. Have 6 that probably need it. Been falling behind in that area. Thinking about trying it with a side grinder. Been lurking on a yahoo group that advocates that method and it sure sounds easier on the back. I ordered a DVD that shows how to do it but haven’t watched it yet. A couple of my old farriers have used grinders before so I know that at least Tennessee and Truly will tolerate it. I’ll just have to find out with the others. Should be interesting. ;o)
Wish this forum had an edit button:)
About your temps....if it does reach 50, probably won’t stay there long enough to make your horses really uncomfortable. I’d leave the blankets.
Becky
