FreeRepublic Saddle Club thread! - Thread 12

Posted on 08/07/2007 7:33:14 AM PDT by HairOfTheDog

The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - (very out of date) Who's Who *pics*

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share, usually about our horses, sometimes about our dogs, gardens and other stuff we do. :~)

I have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will ping everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends.

Well, I hope you like the place and can make that arrangement with the lady so that you can feel good about it. New from around here... Sunny day... We took down the temp fence around thenewgrass there under where the table is. That's been bare dirt since we had the horse ties there but we moved those. Looks nice :~)

And... We have a beagle down... Repeat, a beagle is doooown.

Now to tidy the barn up....

The yard looks wonderful, green and peaceful. You'd never know it had been bare.

Well, the beagle may be down but it sure looks like he's not out :)

Forgot - the place they live is not the greatest. There is a good perimeter fence and gate, the fences for the paddocks are low and bent down where the horses lean on them. The horses though are obviously all pets and well loved. I can see Dusty having a ball, whipping everyone into shape, opening gates and stepping over fences. We decided that if the lady decides on Dusty, she will come over several times and ride her here before she buys her and takes her home. That way, we can make sure she will be safe with the decision.

Your yard looks very nice:)

I’m in town. Went home for a break, but my internet is not working again:(, not sure why. Mack will check it when we get home. I think we are going to play Monopoly here tonight, us and the kids.

It’s been raining most of the day, but now seems to be clearing, but is already steamy hot.

Hopefully your DSL won’t prove to be unreliable at home!? Hope it’s fixable.

I have rotating joint syndrome. When one joint stops hurting another starts:’)

BTDT type thing. Bob and I both started taking Ageless Xtra a couple of months ago. The very subtle effect is that his joints bother him very little most of the time. It does also make a difference in my knee unless I really abuse it.

This Fox Trotter is a little green yet. The owner was very honest and told me it took 10 mins to get him in a trailer. He has never been tied all night camping. Those are the things I want to avoid. Pretty horse and just the right size. Not a bad price.

Gaited horses are very popular. I am glad you are enjoying yours. :)

Stirrups are ok, it was just so much going down hills, which I am not used to. Flatlander here. Way too long a ride for me.

Here is the Paso Fino I was talking about. Hes old, but heck, so am I!

I like the looks of both of them. He’s not old, at 18 he’s got a lot more good years left. Can you go ride them before you make a decision?

I see that he’s only had 30 days training so far.Seems to be doing pretty well for only a month’s work on him,and the price is most definitely right.Sounds like he’s really trying, you might want to take him on as a project. We’ve got a new horse coming in a week or two,and she’s gonna be a project but I’ve got great hopes for her. She’s a 4 year old foundation quarter mare that was used as a surrogates mother for an in-vitro fertilization baby,an Arab. The man who bought the breeding paid 1000 bucks deposit on the mare and had the option of keeping her or sending her back to Arizona and getting his deposit back.He really likes the mare but he’s not into quarter horses, just Arabs. He asked me if I’d want her and I asked him how much he wanted for her-he said just take her,I know you will give her a good home. She’s real quiet and easy to handle on the ground, but it’s apparent that she’s never been ridden. We saddled her up and rode her around his arena and she didn;t buck or act up at all,so it’s off to our trainer for 90 days to get her started.

Well, if it’s between these two, given your recent experience with Bodie where you said you don’t ~want~ to have to train the horse, that you’d like to be able to pull the horse out of the pasture once in awhile and ride and feel safe, I’d go with the older one.

Hello,

Internet hooked up fine this morning. I don’t know what was going on yesterday...

It’s cloudy and looks like it could rain one minute, then sunny the next. Very warm tho.

It’s sunny, but we’re in the chilly morning time of year. It was in the 40s, and it’s slow to warm up now this morning... I dreamed about putting horse blankets on...

LOL.

I’m not looking forward to winter. Hoping we have an easy one.

So when are you putting Bay’s shoes back on?
