This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share, usually about our horses, sometimes about our dogs, gardens and other stuff we do. :~)
I have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will ping everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list.
So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends.

New folk and occasional posters, jump right in and introduce yourselves, tell us about your horses, and post pictures if you've got them!
Is he doing any better with the medicine? The medication does not seem to help Jake, but we are afraid to stop it. I thought we got a jump on it this year but he seems to be just as bad.
Well, he wouldn’t take the powder the vet gave him. I had some ChlorHismante from last year and gave him that in his feed and thankfully he is better. I’ve been soaking his hay and that seems to help too.
We went on a ride this morning and he didn’t cough once. Yeah......
Had the same reaction myself. I have sought out and found a classical mentor to follow. Having ridden the classical way, I don’t understand how anyone would want to ride another way. It is so logical and effective.
Estrogen, glad to hear Wayon is better. Jody and Tubby stopped their coughing also. I picked up some Bute at the vet's when I took the dog the other day and we gave to the pony. She is better too. Poor thing, such a long ride for her.
It is suppose to rain today and all weekend. Hopefully, it will cool off some. It was in the low 90's yesterday.
Good morning! Have to go to Seattle today for a meeting :~\
Good! I am glad to hear that. I know what a tough time we have had with Jake and I would not wish that on anyone.
Well, I’m back from Seattle... sure has been quiet in here!
What you do in Seattle?
I had JP all day, then after I delivered him home I went to town for feed, and Mack and I ate a burger. We are now home, looking for something to watch on TV.
It has been raining on and off today and suppose to be the same tomorrow. Altho it is pretty warm, the air has a feel of fall to it.

Feels hot here! At least it feels hot when I am standing under a horse. Just came in from treating Bay’s feet. Now he’s grazing in the yard. He’s been really good most days, just a few “Arab” days, and today was one of them. Afraid of my towel, you name it.
In Seattle I was meeting with my boss... talking planning meeting gabbing.
Bless my girl's heart, she stood like a rock for the lady to mount on her off side, carried her like she was carrying eggs and even hesitated when the lady asked her to move out a little faster and then did it very gently, like she knew the lady was not real secure. I wasn't surprised, she's an angel with babies or handicapped. She worked off the lady's voice commands rather than leg or rein cues.
The problem is that I start crying when I think of her leaving. No one can absolutely guarantee me that she will be cared for for life and loved unconditionally and she's my baby. And in the back of my mind, I kept thinking that when I retired and did some work on my health issues I could start riding again.
So - we really need to sell horses and I'm being silly and sentimental and need a good dose of realism I guess.
But you have never intended on selling all of them right??? You planned on keeping some. I think you are entitled to keep one for yourself, one that you like and know you are comfortable with. Even if you don’t ride you should be able to have one that you call your own.
I’d keep her.
Becky
Good morning:)
Just thought I would mention that IF I had done the other CTR I had planned on this year it would have been this weekend....Hate to say it, but I’m so glad I’m not there, it’s raining, sorry for the folks there, but I was sure this would be a beautiful weekend and I’d be sorry I didn’t go:).
Becky
I agree... You don’t have to sell everyone.
What about a lease to this lady? Then you don’t have to decide right now, but Dusty gets some good use, and it sounds like, would be good for this lady.
Well, glad that turned out with no regrets :~)
Looks like rain here for the next couple of days. I should go get some grass seed and put down around the front flower bed. I did earlier, but with the lack of rain, it never came up.
There is an 18 yo Paso Fino gelding and a 4 yo Fox Trotter I have been inquiring about. It really hard to decide if I want another horse. My knees get so sore riding, that if I do get another one, it will be gaited.
Well, if the right horse comes along, I hope you’ll know which one it is!
Today we’re going to take down the temp fence around the new grass and mow... then hopefully tidy the barn.... our side is the side that’s messy, the horse side is clean ;~)
Oh - and neighbor dog Cisco is here for a week. Rosie’s gone home to visit family. He and Barkley have a great time.
Good luck looking at the horse’s.
We are getting ready to go to town for breakfast, then the office to do some bookwork:\. I’ll come home this afternoon to feed, but then we are getting together with the kids to play cards this evening.
Starting Mon. I’m going to start doing some cleaning in the back bedrooms to get get ready for Oct. I’m still waiting on the bobcat, the day Charlie was going to bring it to me the starter went out. He ordered a new one, and it came but was the wrong one....so we are still waiting....
Becky
If she does decide she wants Dusty (I told her to go look at all the horses she was considering before making a decision) and their place is safe, I will sell her and just ask that if she doesn't work out, she comes back to me at her selling price. Bob and I both think we'd be more comfortable if she came over and rode a few times before making a permenant decision. We're not sure she will be able to ride much at all.
So, I guess we'll just see what happens.
Oh, Becky - if I can start riding again, I can always ride Indy or Farah or BamBam. Probably even Friday - but I did realize last night, the chances of this lady finding anything as safe and solid for her condition are not good unless she finds a horse that's old and crippled.
Good luck in your search :) Would it help your knees at all to lengthen your stirrups do you think? That helps with my knee or used to anyway.
Hi,I’ve got severe problems with my knees too.I can say without reservation-buy the Fox Trotter if it’s sound. We bought a Fox Trotter 4 years ago and he’s a joy to ride.Super smooth gait and very easy to work with-just wants to please you.
