The Dragonflies' Lair~Thread XXXXI
Poets of the Dragonflies' Lair | August 9, 2007 | Soaring Feather

Posted on 08/06/2007 3:44:50 AM PDT by Soaring Feather

If I could be a Dragon Fly
and wing my way through the sky
I would never be shy
just me and my Dragon Fly!

By moonlight we ride the wind
chase the comets tail for fun
by day we would hide from the sun
our fragile wings would come undone

On darkest nights we would use
fireflies as our guide
we would dip and we would glide
through the heavens open wide
and scatter diamonds in the night sky
my Dragon Fly and me...

And we would wing past our lovers
silent in the night...
to kiss their face in our flight
much to their surprise and delight
my Dragon Fly and me in sight...

Such a view do we share
away up here in the air
of breezes soft through our hair
my Dragon Fly and me a pair...

The video that I saw has a stainless steel bowl suspended by bungee cord or long coiled sorings and a trip wire. You would have to bait the bowl and when the squirrel gets in the bowl he/she trips the device. The squirrel usually flies about 50 feet. Must be one hell of a ride for the squirrel.

Late Summer Sonnet

Where did the Columbines and Lupines go
The Alliums that stood so straight and neat
The raspberries with all their bright red glow
That children did consider such a treat?
The beetles have made lace of all the weeds
The mint's run over everything that's small
The yarrow blooms have withered into seed
Rudbeckia has covered nearly all.
The bee balm now is looking pale and wan
Chrysanthemums of dusty pink are masters
The violets and daisies are now gone
Their spaces have been trampled-on by asters.
As autumn colors warm the garden wall
The cooler nights bespeak the coming fall.

Afternoon, Lady. Lovely poem and picture. It calls on one to come in a rest a bit.

It took awhile to come up with something that didn’t actually let go of summer too easily. I like fall, but late summer should be a (longer) season of its own.

Just for the reason you said, it's a time for people to pull up, rest a bit, and to entertain deep thoughts.

On A Summer's Day

I would fly high on the wings of the wind,
I would sing joyous songs in a treetop
Tuned, to the melody of the birds.
I would wave my arms in harmony
With the trees, swaying slowly to the whirl
Of their capricious rhythm,
I would weave a gossamer web to reflect
The prism radiance of the sun,
Or grow golden sunflowers, or buttercups,
Popping up, luxuriating in the velvet turf.
I would melt into the symphony of the rain
To become a part of the ebb and flow of nature;
Or lie outstretched on the warm sand
As the swirling waves tumble me about.
I would gaze upward in awe
At the vastness of azure skies
Basking in the glory of the universe.

Had to hit and run. My studio/computer room’s TV is in croak mode. Today it only ran 2 hours, so I declared it deceased and went out to get another.

What lovely poetry and graphics, LadyJ..My son and daughter in law came today..a nice surprise. We had a great lunch, did a bit of sightseeing around the lake. I noticed sunflowers blooming on the roadside..thus the picture.(They weren't large like these!). I bought an autumn wreath for my door..My back hurts..but that's old news..I loved their visit.I now have "Band of Brothers" loaded into the player in my bedroom so I will have a comfortable place to watch it.

Labor Day at the beach.
Good morning everyone.

At the Sea-side
by Robert Louis Stevenson

When I was down beside the sea
A wooden spade they gave to me
To dig the sandy shore.

My holes were empty like a cup.
In every hole the sea came up,
Till it could come no more.

Meg, lovely frame. It was nice your family stopped around to spend time with you. This time of year is so great for afternoon drives off the beaten path. ;0)

Good Morning Everyone!

Happy Labor Day To The Lair

Love the poem, Soaring Feather. Yes it was real treat yesterday..and my son moved my DVD,VCR player into the bedroom so I can watch movies in bed..That saved me lots of bending and trouble!
While we looked at the lake..we recalled my children's happy days at our lake cabin...no TV, no Gameboys...just children enjoying digging in the sandy mud, floating in inner tubes, exploring the woods, water skiing and such.Fond memories.
