Matt Damon Talks About The Challenges Of Filming His New Movie, "The Bourne Ultimatum"

(CBS) NEW YORK -- While any actor would be thrilled to have starred in a film such as "The Departed," "The Good Shepherd" or "Ocean's Thirteen," Matt Damon has released all of these movies in the past 10 months.

Today the latest adventure is released for his signature character, Jason Bourne, in "The Bourne Ultimatum."

On Friday's The Early Show Matt Damon stopped by to talk about the making of the film with co-anchor Harry Smith.

Similar to the previous Bourne movies — "The Bourne Identity" and "The Bourne Supremacy" — "The Bourne Ultimatum" is loaded with stunts, chases and intense fight scenes.

One of the reasons the Bourne movies succeed, according to Damon, is the realness of different scenes. "There's never any green screen," he said.

One scene in "The Bourne Ultimatum" involves Damon's character jumping from a roof into a window of another building. Damon said it was a great scene because of its authenticity. "All three guys who were doubling me in that sequence could actually do (that stunt). So it was very doable," he said.

While Damon said it was pivotal to shoot in the actual locations of scenes in the movie, such as Morocco and Madrid, there were times when it was challenging. "It was madness," he said.

Because of the nature of the location, improvisation was often necessary. Damon said, "(Producers) were making contracts with people on the spot to let us shoot."

Damon even had an encounter with an angry shopkeeper during one of the shoots. He said, "At one point, I was running in the middle of a sequence, and a shopkeeper jumped out and grabbed me out of nowhere." After the shopkeeper was given some money from the film crew, however, things calmed down.

After three Bourne movies, Damon does not rule out another film in the series. But he said that the circumstances would need to be just right. "I never say never," he said, "but it would have to be a pretty great script."

I’ve enjoyed the movies, as well. How many books were written?

Obviously I don't know how old your parents are, but I was surprised to see many older people at this movie. I dont' know; I guess I didn't realize that was an action movie crowd. I heard many of them comment positively as they were leaving. Maybe it was the time of day, but the average age was much older than I expected.

My parents are in their early 60’s. The care for my grandma in their home and have a sitter a couple times a week. It’s the only time they get out together. They love going to the movies and couldn’t wait for this one. My mom is very careful in her choice of movies...usually sticks to PG-13. LOL! But she loved the books, too.

Saw it today with the wife-we are late 50’s the 2 o’clock show had maybe 150 there and 75% were middle aged or older. A great movie-but be warned Greengrass’ cutting is even more frenetic then the second movie. Not a movie to go to if you were one of those people who had seizures from the Pokemon cartoons! As to the reason for it’s appeal to older people -maybe a good story, globe trotting ala Bond, no gratuitous sex and not much cussing.

Could it be possible that the people who are going to the movie can actually read, and have read the books?

Saw it today.....great movie. Lots of action, moved pretty quick and had a good ending. I liked the other two prior movies as well. Matt Damon does a great job playing Jason Bourne. Here's a pic from the movie.

I think because the movies take place abroad. They are nice travelogues with excellent photography of city and other places where the action takes place. Also many of the actors are sort of old like Joan Allen. Not filled with fresh young faces AKA skulls full of mush. I have seen the first two. This one will be a smash on DVD

Damon is a credible action figure
