Got a tattoo? It could interfere with getting a job.
A new survey shows that employees are getting the message that plenty of bosses find visible tattoos or body piercings objectionable in the workplace.
"Some would argue that they are a legitimate form of self expression and shouldn't be regulated by an employer," said Mark Oldman, co-founder of career site Vault.com, which conducted the survey.
"But, like it or not, many employers feel that flagrant tattoos detract from one's professional appearance. While they may be less unsavory now, they still can carry a counterculture, Hells Angels flavor, especially the more angry-looking tattoos."

Sounds like a whole lot of folks have been introduced to the real world since 2001!
I saw a kid yesterday...actually he was probably in his mid 20's...with huge flames tattooed on the back of his neck that wrap around to his face! It's going to be real hard for him to cover that body 'art' when he applies for a job. I won't even consider hiring anyone with visible tattoes or body piercings. It shows a contempt for decent society and an appalling lack of good judgement. Two qualities that I try not to invite into my office.

Hmmmm. My husband is a vice president at a Fortune 20 company - at age 36. Last count he has 13 tattoos. None visible in standard business attire, but the higher ups have known he has a bunch for a long time. At his previous job, his boss knew of his tattoos (and a tongue piercing he’s since removed at my request) prior to hiring him.
I hired hundreds of people. Not one had a tattoo, stud or even a ‘small golden earring’ in their ear. One put an earring in his ear after he was hired but, I soon got rid of him.

I would think the business owner has every right to protect their “image” ... whatever it might be. And if tats can’t be covered, then there are consequences. That’s life.
I see so many kids today with really well designed tattoos, but wonder if they understand the long term consequences.

Nope. They don't.
Last year, I called Sears to come clean my carpets. Two guys came to my gate in a clean looking Sears truck and I went to open the gate...when I looked at the two guys I thought I was looking at a Bob Marley album cover. They had 'dreadlocks' and their pants were hanging down with their butts showing. My dogs were barking like crazy, lol. One guy said we're not coming in unless you tie up the dogs...I said see ya. They left.
Sears called a little while later and complained about my dogs and that they wouldn't be able to clean my carpets. I said it's just as well because the guys you sent wouldn't be allowed in my house anyway and regret that now they even know where I live.
We don't have to support this BS!!!

I think that’s the key aspect to most employers.
I heard that guys with neck tattoos get laid a bunch.
It would be interesting to know what percentage of convicted murderers and rapists have tatoos. My guess is that the number would be above ninety per cent.
