The teaser trailer for the "Batman Begins" sequel, "The Dark Knight," debuted on-line yesterday. Unfortunately, the teaser shows no footage, just a breaking away Bat symbol with a dialogue between Christian Bale's Bruce Wayne and Michael Caine's Alfred. At the end, for the first time, we can hear Heath Ledger's Joker speaking.
The trailer premiered in light of Comic Con in San Diego, on a viral marketing sight "run by the Joker himself," whysoserious.com. Batfans were actually sent on a scavenger hunt around the city to unlock clues from the website to unlock the teaser.
There's more info on the site itself.

In an unprecedented move, director Christopher Nolan is filming four sequences in the next installment of Warner Bros. Pictures Batman franchise, The Dark Knight, with extremely high resolution IMAX® cameras using the giant 15/70 film format. The announcement was made today by Jeff Robinov, President of Production, Warner Bros. Pictures. While it is not unique for a feature lensed on traditional 35mm film to be re-mastered to screen in IMAX® theatres, this marks the first time ever that a major feature film has been even partially shot using IMAX cameras, marking a revolutionary integration of the two film formats. ... Thanks to Warner, we have been supplied with a couple of high-res shots from "The Dark Knight" |
I’m actually not sure if there’s an IMAX theater near where I live, but I’m definitely going to look into it.
cool. i saw that there were several other dark knight videos there. thanks.
I’m something of a Batman purist. Been reading his comics since they cost a dime.
“Batman Begins” was one of the finest adaptations of comic book to film. With “Sin City” a very close second.
“Batman Begins” got everything right!
Christian Bale has just the right amount of borderline pyscho that is essential to both Bruce Wayne and Batman.
Gary Oldman is dead on as James Gordon and Michael Caine’s Alfred fits hand in glove.
A wonderful blend of Bob Kane and Frank Miller mythos wrapped around a Gotham City that was equal parts “Brazil” and “Blade Runner”.
Not much of a Heath Ledger fan, but “The Dark Knight” is definitely on my list!
Jack.
Cool! (I’m a bit of a purist as well). I’ve been posting developments on this movie on FR for a while now. I’ll ping you if you want.
Also, the Heath Ledger Joker is mostly going to be inspired by the Joker’s first appearance in Batman #1. A few other comics mentioned were “The Joker’s 5-Way Revenge,” and “The Killing Joke.” He also said he would draw inspiration from Malcolm McDowell’s character from “A Clockwork Orange.”
The movie will also feature Harvey Dent (played by Aaron Eckhart) and his slow downfall into becoming Two-Face. The heavy inspiration for that will be from “The Long Halloween.”
Very cool, pcottraux:
Always thought “The Killing Joke” was well done and filled in a lot of blanks. Also like the old school Mob Family, noir epics like Jeph Loeb and Tim Sale’s “The Long Halloween” and “Dark Victory”.
Would love to see the later addition of Cassandra Cain as the new Batgirl, though I doubt it’s ever going to happen.
Summer Glau (”Serenity”’s River Tam) or Devon Aoki (”Sin City”’s Miho) would be perfect for the role.
Jack.
Is this being filmed in Chicago?
Only minor complaint about Batman Begins: Katie Holmes. Too much of a lightweight for D.A.
Yes, it is. In fact, it’s being listed as the most epic, big budget film ever made in that city.
She’s been replaced by Maggie Gyllenhaal. Although I’m not a fan of Maggie, she is a heck of an actress and I think will be a major improvement.
Thanks.
Have you seen the “Marvel vs. DC” YouTube? It’s hilarious. Especially the end.
Holy Huge Screen Fun Batman!
I’d still like to see more of Wayne’s “learning” process as he becomes the master detective, etc.
I’d like to see the writers be smart enough to show Wayne learning more from Fox about chemistry, etc. For example, when he didn’t know what Fox’s mumbo-jumbo was about figuring out what he was gassed with and coming up with an ancedote - they could use that premise as Wayne’s motivation to learn more.
Oh, absolutely. I *love* those.
I think this one was my favorite, although it’s hard to pic:

Got a kick out of DareDevil asking how Guy Pearce was in his movie.
But personally, I might like the defaced version better.
Would have put that one up at work, too, but didn't want to freak anyone out.
Where did you find the defaced version?
It was part of WB’s viral marketing campaign.
To promote the movie, mysterious “Joker websites” have popped up sporadically. The first one was called “Ibelieveinharveydenttoo.com.” The way it worked was, it showed that defaced image, and then it gave you an option to enter your e-mail address. With every e-mail addressed they collected, a pixel was added, so that when you got onto the site, the defaced Harvey Dent picture slowly faded away into the “new image.” And it turned out to be the Joker’s face, and that’s how WB revealed their first picture of him.
Here’s a brief YouTube showing what it looked like:

If you go to Ibelieveinharveydenttoo.com now, you’ll find a message that says “Page Not Found,” but if you highlight all around it, you’ll find a surprise. And inside that surprise is a coded message that says “see you in december.”
(And if you haven’t noticed yet, I’ve been following developments on this movie pretty obsessively).
