Like it or not, Hilary will be the next President (VANITY)
SELF | JULY 27, 2007 | SELF

Posted on 07/27/2007 8:37:05 PM PDT by Edward Watson

I know I'm going to be flamed and elections are still a year and a half away but the momentum seems to be favoring Hilary as the next POTUS. The sooner Republicans and conservatives accept the fact President Bush and the congressional Republicans have so enraged their base and independents that the Democratic Party will gain even stronger control over the congress and will take back the White House in the 2008 elections.

What is to blame for the collapse of the Republican dominance over the US? Corruption, arrogant refusal to heed the wishes of the public (especially on immigration and border security), and Iraq.

Right or wrong, most Americans blame Republicans and Bush for all the problems the US faces. They may not like the cowardly Democrats in congress, but they are viewed as the lesser of two evils.

I simply do not believe the Republican base will work to bring out the conservative vote in the next election - they are tired of being ignored, ridiculed, and abused by the Republican elite in Washington.

President Bush is not the man they thought he was. He calls them racists and not wanting what is best for America just because they oppose giving amnesty to 12-20 million illegal immigrants. He doesn't lift a finger to help the jailed border guards. He let Scooter Libby dangle in the wind for so long despite how obvious it was he should never have been charged in the first place. He didn't change the liberal and leftist bureaucrats and attorneys when he came into power. He opposes racial profiling or protecting the border. He repeatedly calls Islam "the religion of peace" despite the fact Muslims have committed more than 9000 terror acts in the name of their religion since 9-11. He dragged his feet in weaning America off foreign oil. He's presided over a shrinking Navy that can no longer fight two simultaneous wars.

Sure, he's done some good, but it can't be denied at how bitter most conservatives are at the Republicans and how they feel betrayed by President Bush.

So, despite personally liking Romney, I think it's inevitable Hilary will become the next president. May she do better than the Great Betrayer.

Lol! I just caught that! - I’m mortified.

What I meant to say was, “The sooner Republicans and conservatives accept the fact President Bush and the congressional Republicans have so enraged their base and independents that the Democratic Party will gain even stronger control over the congress and will take back the White House in the 2008 elections; the sooner they will be able to lay the groundwork for a Republican Renaissance in 2010 and 2012, much like Gingrich and Co did in 1994.”

Sorry to all ...

I actually like many Filipino foods and try to eat it at least once a week. For example, tinolang manok (Chicken soup with melon), tinolang baka (beef soup with ginger and cabbage), pinakbit (vegetable stew with pork and NO bittermelon), monggo (mung bean soup with creamery squash), tocino (panfried sweetened pork), longganisa (sweet & spicy sausages), pancit (panfried noodles with vegetables and meats and shrimp), ginataang alimango (crab in coconut milk), lechon (roasted pig on a spit).

I can think of at least a dozen more that are delicious and I don’t know of anyone who has ever not loved the food when we had it for parties.

He'll be the republican nominee and will be hildabeast.

Hey, I'm a Duncan Hunter supporter. However, whoever gets the republican nominee is who I'll vote for and it'll be Rudy.

As a Caucasian who has lived in the Philippines for nearly 14 years, I must caution you from thinking the country is ideal for your needs.

Sure money will go a lot further than in the States, but that’s only for basic necessities - if you want good quality items or imported goods - prepare for sticker shocks. As a non-Filipino, you will not be allowed to own land, only apartments and condos that are elevated above the ground (stupid law, I know) unless you have a Filipina wife who can then have the property in her name. Sure you can have a maid to cook, wash, and clean for around 150 a month. Sure, the beaches are fantastic - I got married on the beach in Boracay - astonishingly gorgeous. Sure Filipinos are very friendly. If you marry a Filipina, chances are you’re going to be supporting her whole family (not the case with me - I told her right at the beginning it’s not going to happen).

However, all the benefits must be weighed against the very real problems of the country. Corruption is unbelievable - just about every level of government will need bribes to get anything done. Traffic, especially in Metro Manila is horrible and driving habits are disgusting. Pollution and filth are everywhere in the cities and Filipinos in general simply don’t respect the environment and the importance of biodiversity - garbage is thrown everywhere, sewers are clogged with it (which results in floods even in mild downpours), any wild animal is fair game for hunting.

Can you handle seeing appalling poverty? It’s everywhere over there. Children and pregnant women begging. Abandoned wives and evicted stepchildren forced into prostitution.

Heaven forbid you get sick over there - you’ll need to pay for emergency visits up front and only a handful of hospitals are up to Western Standards (Asian Hospital in Muntinglupa is excellent and is the best imo - just letting you know).

Diseases on a scale unseen in the West are chronic. The education system is overcrowded like you’re not going to believe (65+ students in elementary classes as young as first grade - and sometimes two shifts - one group in the am and another in the pm).

Oh, I guarantee people will be borrowing money from you all the time - I hope you do give them money - but just be aware you’re giving them money, not lending it to them.

As I said, I speak from experience - I lived there for nearly 14 years, speak the language like a native, am part Filipino through my father’s side, am married to a Filipina and have five incredibly handsome half-Filipino sons.

Why should I deserve to be zotted? Am I wrong in saying Hilary will win re-election because conservatives are so bitter and angry at the elite Republicans and President Bush that they will not make the strenuous effort to re-elect Republicans in the next election?

Is this so idiotic that I need to be banned for even mentioning it? Are you happy with the congressional Republicans and President Bush that YOU will do everything in your power to re-elect Republicans in 2008? Then you are in the minority, not me.

“Freedom and liberty scare Americans.”

Nope. It’s the responsibility that comes hand in hand with the latter two.

No, but I do believe President Bush should be impeached for his refusal to protect America’s borders, for his refusal to enforce existing immigration laws, and for his attempt to ram amnesty for 12-20 million illegals.

Do you support what he’s done on these issues? If not, then you agree with me then, differing only on what should happen to him.

You see, to me, any president who swears to uphold the laws of the nation but then kicks the law into the face of the public DESERVES to be removed from office. For me, the presidency is a sacred trust. If President Bush doesn’t protect the nation and obeys the law - why then should he say in power?

People will not vote for her. They will vote against the GOP. If the republican candidate seem like a RINO he will not get the voters excited and the presidency will fall into the hands of the wicked witch of the mid west, south, north east... I for get where she is really from....

Those dishes actually sound very good! I guess I am biased because I live right by a Filipino restaurant and the food is terrible.

And what if that's not a fact? Apathy might be a problem among the Republican base, and independents are probably even more apathetic (disliking both sides). But I seriously doubt that "rage" is really in play, except in small immigration-focused groups who only talk among themselves.

I predicted this when I read your comment about "rage." Even among most Republicans, the border is not a subject that evokes "rage."

From everywhere, as long as she gets votes. How could we forget the fake Black southern accent?

Ah, that explains it. There are around a dozen Filipino restaurants in my city and only one is any good in my opinion.

My advice is get a Filipina friend and ask her to cook some famous dishes. Alternatively, use the internet to get some recipes. For some sweets, try ginataan (hard to explain - it has some purple yam in it, jackfruit and gelatin balls), halo-halo (shaved ice, with sugar, ice cream, evaporated milk, sweet banana, jackfruit, nata de coco), leche flan (flan with sweet syrup), turon (deep fried sweet banana in a wrap), buko salad (shredded young coconut and fruit cocktail in sweetened syrup and cream).

Geez, all this talk of food has made me hungry ...
