Make sure they don’t read ‘The Right Stuff’ which details the escapades of all those flyboys.

Probably because Drudge is linking it on his page.

I’d need a drink before launching in that thing.

Fly the space shuttle?

Alcohol and liquid hydrogen don’t mix, you know.

I wouldn’t be surprised if the Russians have rigged up a moonshine still on the space station.

They don’t really do much in the first few hours of flight anyway. The computer does it all.

Steve McCroskey: Looks like I picked the wrong week to quit sniffing glue.

Now if the Mission Control guys were drunk, then I’d be worried.

A zero-gee still would be an impressive engineering accomplishment!

I would be too!! Only way you'd get me in one of those rickety old government sponsored space buses or any other piece of junk funded by the government

Probably just a research study. Is a hangover worse at gravity or weightlessness ...

Hmmm, this DOES surprise me. I’m surprised that NASA hires astronauts who have a problem with alcohol in the first place. ‘Course in my book, any adult who gets drunk has a problem with alcohol. I like to drink on occasion myself, but haven’t been “drunk” in 40 years, since I was a teenager.

Isn't that the truth! Don't the astronauts basically just hang on?

On a somewhat related topic: if the synthahol in the Star Trek series didn't cause hangovers, why wasn't everyone walking-around blasted all the time?

Many years ago, I met a guy named Bill Pouge. He was a retired astronaut, and his crew established some records during their mission on Skylab.

He was telling me the history of the space shuttle, and how the design had been compromised by Nixon. Just a few days after that meeting, the Challenger disaster occurred. Since then, I've had no desire to go into space.
