Just out of rehab and yet cant get herself together. I don't know what the curriculum at Promises rehab center was, but some rehab centers actually try to teach control of alcohol and not total abstinence. The first step to recovery is admitting that your are powerless over alcohol (or drugs).

If she were poor and black, she’d be facing some years in jail.

I loved the remake of “The Parent Trap.” She was adorable in it. Sad to see what has happened to her. Interesting, her father in the movie was played by Dennis Quaid, who went through a lot of drug addiction himself and who seems to have beaten it and gone on to a good life and career. Too bad he can’t wake her up to what she is doing to her life.

I don't know what the curriculum at Promises rehab center was,
Its a bogus treatment center which is essentially a celebrity day spa.

Everyone I know asks the same question as word of each celebrity DUI is made public. Why in the hell can’t these people hire a driver/car service/cab/sober friend. With the resources they have it is mind boggling and these people need to be locked up.

Rehab...what a swindle.
Please dont judge all rehabs as just a swindle. Many rehab centers do a really good job and help a lot of people to the road to recovery, but its still up to the addict to make the decision for themselves. If a person is not willing or not ready to recover, they wont. If a person is just looking for a temporary way out - that's all they will get.

Please dont judge all rehabs as just a swindle. I've had enough personal experience...friends/family, not me...that I'm willing to say that rehab is a swindle.
They have an incentive to create repeat customers.
Real rehabilitation is the producdt of a perfect storm.

"Why in the hell cant these people hire a driver/car service/cab/sober friend." Alcoholism is a manifestation of spiritual inadequacy and self-loathing. An alcoholic is an egomaniac with an inferiority complex and their excessive drinking is nothing more than suicide on the installment plan. They have no regard for their own well being or that of others until they take certain steps to deal with their issues....

Because, in a deeper sense, rich alcoholic celebs are like alcoholics everywhere else, full of pride and denial.

Im sorry to hear that some people close to you, your family and friends, didnt get anything out of their rehab experience.
From personal experience, I know that the last thing that any honest rehab professional or volunteer ever wants to see, is the repeat customer. They have plenty of new people seeking help to not depend on their livelihood on repeat customers.
What they want really want is the success story who can come back and council the new arrivals on how it works and how to succeed in living clean and sober.
Ive heard some people say the same sort of thing about cancer treatment cancer researchers dont want to find a cure because that would mean the end of their livelihood and so one shouldnt seek cancer treatment, its a scam I knew someone who had cancer, got treatment but still died so it cant work and so doesnt work for anyone.
When you say Real rehabilitation is the product of a perfect storm, thats true in the sense that the person seeking treatment, whether from a rehab or AA, has to have a willingness to succeed and have hit a bottom low enough to make them willing. If someone enters a rehab only to appease a spouse, an employer or a judge, but is not willing to take the first step and admit they have a problem and is not willing to do what comes next in their recovery, they will fail. But thats not the rehabs fault.

Rehab saved my life. What price do you put on that? The only swindle was the one I was committing on myself - denying what I knew was the truth for decades. Caramelgal - thanks for your experience, strength, and hope.

So true...
Fox News is all to often the “white girls gone wild or missing” channel to the exclusion of real hard news.
On the other hand: If that is what is necessary to get people to tune into a news resource that isn’t 100% leftism 100% of the time.....
