Teen Girls Accused Of Setting Kitten Ablaze.
COTATI, Calif. -- A three-month-old kitten is fighting for his life after allegedly being set afire by two teenage girls last week.
The male shorthaired kitten, named Adam, received second- and third-degree burns over 75 percent of its body and was being treated at an animal hospital in Cotati, in Northern California's Sonoma County, officials said.
The kitten has undergone two surgeries and had its tail and the tips of its ears amputated.
Two girls have been charged with cruelty to animals in connection with the case. They were arrested last Friday after allegedly pouring flammable liquid on the cat, only 8 weeks old at the time and setting it on fire.
A boy and his friend said they saw the smoke and heard the cat shrieking while the girls laughed.
The girls are being held in Sonoma County's Juvenile Hall. The maximum penalty carried by the charges against them is three years of confinement.
Euthenize the Cat....
...and the two girls.
Let’s say it was a child? I know there’s a difference surely as between cats and humans, but they are both God’s living creatures. You’re distinguishing based on species, I’m focused more broadly on the fact that it is a living being. If you think it doesn’t understand what’s happening to it, I suggest you visit an animal that has been rescued and see for yourself. They know what it meants to be abused and saved. Differentiating God’s creatures is ridiculous. Let’s not forget, a hundred years ago certain races were distinguished, put into a different category and then all sorts of disrespectful behavior justified based on those distinctions that ignored a very simple fact that should be apparent to any spiritual or religious person - it’s a living conscious being created by the Almighty.
The way some people here are speaking reminds me of how the DUmmies spoke of Terri S., and speak of fetuses and of pre-natal babies tested and disovered to be handicap. You can all rationalize by saying it’s just an animal, fine if that makes you feel better about it. The God I pray to doesn’t distinguish and would be disgusted at such disregard for his creatures. Moreover, this sort of line drawing undermines true respect for life, in all its forms.
Did Father Abraham tell God, why waste the space in the Ark, “they’re just animals” surely they “don’t understand what’s happening”
The Garden of Eden, God’s perfect world, was vegetarian (Gen. 1:29-30). Immediately, God calls this ideal and non-exploitative relationship “good” (Gen. 1:31). There follow many years of fallen humanity, when people held slaves, waged war, ate animals and committed various other violent acts. But the prophets tell us that the peaceable kingdom will be nonviolent and vegetarian; even the lion will lie down with the lamb (e.g., Isaiah 11).
Would anyone trust either of these two to babysit? They got their jollies seeing a living creature in extreme pain. Strange that it was girls (and two of them to boot). Reminds me of the horrible case of the boys (think they were brothers or related) that had put the puppy in an oven. They had a history of being cruel to humans as well if I’m remembering correctly. What hope is their for someone like that? I don’t know what’s going on with these two girls, but those boys should be locked up forever—but they won’t be. And you know some idiot woman (with a child from another man) will have them as their boyfriend when they get out.
As far as those two little bwitch's go, I hope they burn them at the stake. They deserve that and more! If they did that to one of my kitties, I'd probably kill them. This makes me furious!
Indeed, most serial killers and other psychopaths start by torturing animals. I don’t know about execution, but I don’t want them back in the free population. Confinement in a metal institution is appropriate.
The only thing I find upsetting other than the girl is people like you who try to compare the life of an animal to the life of a cat. We (most of us) live in the United States of America. You cannot be penalized for a crime you *might* commit later. You can only be sentenced based on what you did.
Yes, it takes a sick person to do something like that, but they should be punished for what they did. I realize that many people like cats and whatnot, but having soft fur doesn’t make one animal more special than another. If someone did that to a crow, we wouldn’t have this thread.
“I agree that there is either a serious screw loose with these girls or they are serial killers in the making, or both. No normal person could possibly do something like this.”
Boys do this stuff most of the time and it’s only in the news because it was done by girls.
I had a kitten once that was hit by a car. I probably should have put it down. Instead, I spent three months nursing it and about $4,000 on vet bills. For the next fifteen years, she was the best cat, ever. It’s been another 15 years since she died, and I still miss her. Always will. People are stupid about their pets. That’s one of the great things about being human.
I don’t believe any normal child (boy or girl) sets a kitten or dog on fire. And I have certainly heard about it in the news when it’s been boys that have acted as cruel as this.
In a society that disavows God, embraces moral relativism and seeks to undermine gender roles it’s only a natural evolution to see this type of behavior.
If you take away the foundations for good and evil, if you seek to make women attempt to up the ante to be more like men (in regards to emotional hardness), it’s all that can be expected.
The poor kitten should probably be put down.
The girls should be placed under observation pending trial.
Why do you want to burn your two little kittens?
The first paragraph makes absolutely no sense at all. A) It’s totally irrelevant to what I post, and B) it simply makes no sense.
First, I am focused on what these people did, nothing else. This isn’t a post about hate speech or thought crimes.
Second, I don’t, contrary to what you presume, differentiate between a cat and a crow. Lighting a crow on fire to watch it suffer, a rat, mice for that matter is a) an early sign of a psycho, and b) disgusting disrespect for a living creature that should be punished.
“Yes, it takes a sick person to do something like that, but they should be punished for what they did” Who is talking about anything less?
“I realize that many people like cats and whatnot, but having soft fur doesnt make one animal more special than another” Where did I suggest otherwise? In fact, if you actually read what I wrote, you’d see I believe this myself.
“If someone did that to a crow, we wouldnt have this thread.” I agree not as many people would care and people would not be as emotional, but from a logical point of view, if you believe in respect for ALL life and detest vile behavior such as thing, lines based on human/aminal domesticated/wild shouldn’t make all that much of a difference. The difference lies in the circumstances and conduct. If a wild animal is about to eat a baby, fine, it’s life is secondary to that of the human. But lighting fire to a cat and then just saying, ah the hell with it, it’s only an animal anyway, kill it off, is the sort of “thinking” that makes people minimize life in the first place and leads to this sort of behavior.
I don’t agree. Any boy who does something like this has serious problems, too.
Abraham was not even born yet. It was Noah’s Ark, not Abraham’s. But aside from that, you are correct. God did save animals rather than the mass of degenerate humanity. I remember my dad saying that animals are of far more value than some people. I have always agreed with that. I would spare a rat over some scumbag like Charlie Manson.
These girls are pure evil.
Am glad they are doing all they can to save the cat.
To bad those of the throw away society think of doing the same to this cat.
The girls should be locked up in Juv. Hall and also put at some work duty for starters.
Also Juv. Dep. need to ckeck out the household they live in.
Folks need to pay in punishment for this.
Yes....I agree that we have to decide whether to put the animal down...and this might have been a case to do so.
But ‘murder’ is just a word that people gave a definition. If someone murdered my pet.....God knows I’m going to suffer as much as humanely possible over it.
That’s embarrassing. Sorry, I was worked up writing it and clearly not thinking straight. I hang my head in shame. Thanks for going further than simply pointing out my error. I respect other people’s views on this and realize mine is perhaps unconventional, but it’s not crazy or out of line with the religious values with which I was raised.
Awww....that’s going to be a good cat.
