Mountains return on Tuesday.
Phew! Time to catch up on household and mothering duties before Tuesday a.m. :D
For whatever reason, people wanted to cheer for Lance Armstrong. Now that he has gone, thankfully this country has gone back to not caring about bike riding.
If they had batons that they could hit each other, I think it would be very cool. Perhaps it could be more like roller derby with some speed guys, some enforcers, etc.
These guys amaze me. It looks silly, but dang they've got to be in great shape.
Probably some of the best conditioned athletes in the world, period.
I recently started riding my bike to the train station each morning as part of my daily commute. I have to admit that the more I get used to it, the more I like it. I have started riding harder and faster, and have even started taking laps around the block before putting the bike in the garage, its pretty exhilirating. I have even gone as far as purcasing a bike computer and a goofy helmet. Don't care how silly it looks, its great!
Do you wear spandex and the gay yellow bracelet?
Okay, we get it, you don't like cycling. So why are you on this thread?
Nope, and I ride a mountain bike, not a road bike. I ride through the city, a road bike would get torn up. Besides, I like the inefficiencies of a mountain bike, makes my body work harder at the lower speeds neccessary in city riding, and I need the exercize, gotta lose about 20 more pounds.
“Probably some of the best conditioned athletes in the world, period.”
I wholeheartedly agree with your comment above. Just last month, I visited my hometown in southern West Virginia (heart of the coalfields). For old time’s sake, I walked my paper route just to see what and how much had changed in 47 years. This route was on the side of a mountain and would be a class 1 according to Tour de France standards. I used to be able to run this route. At other times, I could ride my bike on some of those streets with no problem. Last month, I could barely walk those hills and I am in reasonable shape. Now, watching the TDF, I marvel at the strength and conditioning of these athletes. I’ve become a big fan of cycling.
I spent a little time in the area where Stages 6, 7 and 8 of the this year’s Tour are. Incredibly beautiful scenery and makes me want to go visit it again - NOW. Would love to be there during the TDF. I bet you would too.
We're also starting to 'get' quite clearly that Mr. King seems to have, er...shall we say, an inordinately obsessive preoccupation with the sexuality of highly conditioned male athletes. ;-)
Um, is there something ya wanna tell us, Rod?
No, I have nothing agianst the professional cyclists and the gear they where. It's the weekend pretenders that make me wonder.
I admit, these guys make me laugh. The guys all done up in the colors of a typical professional cyclist, with all the serious gear (I had a neighbor like that, and I KNOW he was not a real pro, or even a serious rider). My setup is fairly ghetto looking by comparison.
OK, I was just trolling otherwise. I have nothing against your sport, but a few years ago during the Lance Armstrong pehenomena I knew more than one annoying person who got the short haircut, started wearing the bracelet, and riding their bike around in spandex.
Mine is pretty ghetto too (I just wear regular tees or tank tops) but you have to have the shorts & gloves & (helmet hair be damned) the headgear or else you aren’t going to last very long out there.
