For whatever reason, people wanted to cheer for Lance Armstrong. Now that he has gone, thankfully this country has gone back to not caring about bike riding.
It's unfortunate you feel like that. I'm an American and I set the alarm to view the 2007 TDF at 06:00 am.. What really stinks is that the finish is in the timeframe I need to be in the office, so I get to watch it again that night, and pray I don't read the results before that evening.

Lance isn't there this year, nor is Landis. Nonetheless, the TDF is a special month long event....regardless of who is in it. If you don't / can't / won't appreciate it, that's fine. That's your business.
