ROSEVILLE An amazing discovery has been unearthed in Placer County. Amazing because of its history significance....and amazing because of how it was found. Archaeologist did not carefully unearth the 8,000 to 10,000 year old artifact, but it appears some curious squirrels dug it up.
And now, folks at the Maidu Indian Interpretive Center are trying to preserve what the squirrels unearthed. The center allows people to learn how Native Americans lived thousands of years ago. And it was here that the squirrels made their find in what could be called an ancient compost pile.
"You can see where little tiny flakes have been knocked off to sharpen this or to give it a certain shape." explained Cultural Interpreter Rick Adams who stumbled up the unearthed artifact along the Maidu Nature Trail. It's a carefully carved tool or ceremonially object dating back an estimated 8,000 to 10,000 years. Experts say it appears to be partially volcanic and may have originated in the Rancho Murietta area about 20 miles from where it was discovered.
"We only find what the squirrels are giving us right now. And that's OK. We don't want to dig." said Park Specialist Chuck Kritzon.
While the officials running the Maidu Center know there are probably more artifacts in the park, it is illegally for humans to dig them up on the protected land.

I have never read a "professional" article with so many grammatical errors in it in my life, BTW. This one's astoundingly bad.

it is illegally for humans to dig them up .... Great editor. It parses out into a fun and proper sentence, though...

its pretty pathetic IMHO -- especially when you consider everyone is using computers now with SPELLCHECK!!! Over reliance on spell-check probably contributed to this. Spell-check only finds incorrectly spelled words, not wrong words. I've heard college professors despair over the number of students who turn in papers incorrectly using site/cite/sight, affect/effect, seen/scene, and even there/their.

The people who were here 8,000 to 10,000 years ago, which were referenced in your first post, are not necessarily descended from those here 13,000 years ago, referenced in your second post. There is lots of evidence that the ancestors of today's Indians arrived about 11,000 years ago from Siberia, constituting the "Clovis culture."
Where those who may have been in North America before that came from is a lot more obscure at this point.

Sherman Logan, was blam making a reference to Kennewick man?And others. But please see post 48. Evidence for pre-Clovis (more than 11,000 years BP) occupation of the Americas is a lot more sparse than it is for the post-Clovis period.

So, let’s recap.
A squirrel dragged a scraper out of the ground, but the archaeologist-in-charge “doesn’t want to dig”, so they are going to rebury this implement, in the hopes that someday, we will understand more about those who used to have to survive using nothing but stone knives and bearskins.
