I can not see the local H-D dealers who barely tolerate the ‘Sportster’ engined Buells now going all warm and moist over a Rotax engined bikes. Maybe this will also kill off the ‘Harley wants to buy Ducati’ rumor.

Why oh why would Harley want to be involved in this? Then again, I never thought Harley should have made Buells or the non-Harley V-Rod in the first place.

I like Buell but I'll stick with the Horse I rode in on.

Here's my 2 cents. I owned a Buell X-1 Lightning for about 4 years, and, also being an owner of several Jap sport bikes, and dirt bikes in the past (Early 70's Honda 90, Late 70's Yamaha Trial 250, 79-KZ-1000, 87 Ninja 750, 88 Hurricane 1000, 93 CBR 600) there is a significant difference.

For starters, all the Jap bikes ran like a fine-tuned watch. The Buell, although very, very powerful with the low-end torque with it's 1200 motor, was very clunky, and rattled my teeth out. Because of that, I don't think I will ever buy another Buell again.

I have ridden a dirt bike with a Rotax engine, but didn't like the configuration of the kick start, because it was on the left side. The dirt bike did run out very nicely, though. Now if this Buell/Rotax engine fixes the rattle your balls issue, then I would be happy to give it a look.

Anyway, my 2 cents....
