I always tell my friends that the second engine on a twin is just to get you to the scene of the accident .... but sad in any case ... heard that three were children in the house but not sure ....

And Sky King died about 6 - 10 miles from this crash site on Rt 50 about 15 years ago.

My flight instructor always drilled the same thing, every time we flew twins. While it may be true for most recips, it's definitely not true for jet props. Some of them climb better on one engine, than recips on two. If you throttle back a bit most turboprops will easily get 1000 fpm on one, with very manageable yaw control.

In any event, both engines were probably powered in this crash. It's tough to fly when you can't see.

Roger on the turbine but I think the 310 has normally aspirated engines (in pilot talk).

Toy planes kill a lot of doctors.

The 310 was the inspiration for the saying about twin engines.
The non-turbocharged versions barely get a 100 fpm climb at gross wt., at standard density altitude. On a 3500 ft runway you’d be lucky to clear the telephone poles at the airport perimeter, and you’d have to work overtime to keep the thing straight and level. I’ve never flown one, and have no desire to do so. Threading needles with airplanes is not my idea of a fun day.

Roger that .... don’t like twin recips for that reason ... you loose an engine on TO and depending on which one you either roll over to the left or right and at 50 or 100 feet you loose ....
