George McCorkle, one of the original members of legendary Spartanburg group The Marshall Tucker Band, died today at the age of 60 in a Nashville hospital of complications from cancer.
Ron Rainey, whose company represents the group, posted the following statement on the band's Web site shortly before noon:
"I just received word that George passed away at about 9:00 AM Nashville time. The entire Marshall Tucker Band Family, past and present along with the entire MTB organization are in mourning over this great loss. Please join us in prayers for he and his family."

Dang. I’ll be 60 in a couple weeks.
Never heard of the guy but that is a good song.
That’s too bad. I love his guitar work. I heard that he picked with his thumb; anyone know if that’s true? Amazing if it is.
Prayers up...
"Fire on the mountain, lightening in the air, gold in them hills and it's waitin' for me there."
I vote for “Fire On The Mountian”
“I heard that he picked with his thumb; anyone know if thats true? “
You’re thinking of Toy Caldwell who passed on about 12 or so years ago.

I learned “Cant you see?” as one of my first flattop songs. It is a great bar song if you are doing a gig. I loved them.
ditto
The Band may still well be touring.
Like “Heard it in a love song”; another song of their’s that gets played some is something like “Searching for a rainbow”; that might be the name of one of their releases.
Prayers.
Some of the fiercest country rock playing ever recorded. Highly recommended.
This album- “Where We All Belong” is the template for country rock IMHO. “24 hours at a time” live is a very good probably great song.
RIP
Agreed, in general the late 70’s was a friggin’ musical wasteland.
Had a girlfriend who listened to Dan Fogelberg nearly non-stop.

OT - “...him and his family”, not “...he and his family” - GRRR </bad grammar rant>
Agreed.
