I pretend like I’m a librarian. I don’t have all the tools I need, but that may end soon, if I have my way. I only spend two hours a week there (for now) but it gives me time to know what’s in there.
It’s a small library, and from what I could see today, it’s been pretty haphazardly run. I haven’t worked in a library since I was 14, but it’s something you never lose.

Agreed! I've been far more "library worker" than "librarian" -- my one experience at cataloging books (over some period of time, those that didn't come "pre-catalogued") told me how difficult that is, and I am no longer surprised at being told that those who are expert at same are sometimes considered a bit "off" by others.

But you are correct: it's something you never lose!

How big/small is the library? The last I worked with (and I applied my computer skills to their system) had about 20,000 books, fiction and non-fiction combined. (My SF collection reached about 3,000 books alone before The Great Weeding.)

Good morning and welcome to the Great Lizard Guessing Game.

The game is to guess how many lizards Tax-chick and chicklets will accumulate before THE END. (THE END being before the game tires, before Mom puts her foot down, before Armageddon.)

I guess 11 Lizards all in a row.

We have to keep the lizards for six months. Hopefully the children will have stopped gazing at them all the time before September, or nobody will get any schoolwork done, and of course it will be All My Fault.

...How big/small is the library?...

It has probably 500-600 books, tapes, CDs and DVDs, but one can order something(s) from the main library whenever they want.

There is quite a round collection in there, but it would seem the preference is for mystery, action and romance. We don't have access to a computer because we are "volunteers," but we get help when we need it.

Right now, I'll concentrate on getting the books cataloged correctly. (No wonder I couldn't find anything to read....)

Already? It’s not even dark yet.

I usually go to bed by 6:00 PM. If I don't, I have a hard time sleeping and then my brain get screwed up, and then I get sick again.

So it's just easier to stay on a schedule of sorts. That way, I know my body is going to be nice to me!

Hmmm...since I don’t know how many eggs there are, or how many there will yet be, it may be a challenge to guess how many will actually survive and thrive.

It’s probably a good thing they are confined...unless one of the females becomes cannibalistic....

Ugh. I hope not. I may go get a half-cup of coffee in order to get going.

I had half a cup this morning. Maybe that’s why I was done in an hour. Oh. That can’t be it...the coffee was decaf.

I can drink coffee in any weather. I like it iced once in a while, and will buy a four-pack of Starbucks’ Mocha. It’s hard to just drink one! LOL!

Well, at least you're done and back!

Went and got a half cup of the real stuff. Maybe it will help.

Fired off an e-mail this morning that ups my "accomplishments" list for the week: "Finalized and submitted publication public review packages for Addenda j-o." Messy. For each of these packages I had to include:
- The addendum itself
- A copy showing changes from previous version, if any
- Votes on responses to commenters on previous version, if any
- Said responses, if any, signed (and preferably accepted) by commenters
- Draft minutes showing the vote
- E-mail ballots from voting members not present
- A filled-out submission form (many pages)
- Cover letter to the Manager of Standards
But I finished the packages yesterday and dated everything today so I could at least start with a sense of accomplishment.

But I keep asking myself: How on earth did I become such a bureaucrat???
