"Democratic presidential hopeful and former North Carolina Sen. John Edwards meets with Smithfield Packing Co. workers at his campaign headquarters in Chapel Hill, N.C., Thursday, June 21, 2007. Edwards met with more than a dozen workers from the hog processing plant in Tar Heel, highlighting them as an example of why Congress needs to pass a bill that could help organizers establish unions without an election."

Looks like the Smithfield Packers are living ‘high off the hog’.

help organizers establish unions without an election

That's right, just cram it down employees throats.

***...highlighting them as an example of why Congress needs to pass a bill that could help organizers establish unions without an election.”***

Wait a minute! He wants to take away the workers’ right to vote for or against a union? Did I get that right?

He’s in favor of the big-business organizers? Unions? C’mon, tell me I read this wrong.

As a Muslim, I am appalled and offended by his going to an abattoir of such filthy animals! I cannot, in good conscience, ever vote for him.

After sitting with these folks and pretending to listen to their sad story, I believe they do have a case.

Isn’t it dangerous to be that fat and work at a hog processing plant?

I’m just saying ....

You are reading this wrong ... he is in favor of those guys showing up on your doorstep wondering why you won’t sign the union organizaing card. Then it’s “you signed the card so we don’t need a vote.”

I'm sure the Breck candidate thinks long & hard on "Poverty is the great moral issue of our time" sitting in his palatial estates. Give me a break!

Nope.

Currently, a majority of employees must sign “cards” in order to authorize an election.

Then an actual election is held.

Instead, this new bill would make the “cards” the de-facto election.

In my not-so-limited experience, many employees sign the cards just to make management sweat. Most really don’t want a union because bargaining starts at a wage rate of $0.00
